Struggling to find a second job

I'm having a hard time getting a second job. I've applied at several places that are looking for part time and/or seasonal help. Just an entry level position doing almost anything. I never hear back from any of them, nothing at all. I realize it's difficult to find a night and weekend job, but to not hear back from any of them seems odd. I've been at my current job for 20 years, so it's not like I'm bouncing from place to place. Anyone have advice or experience in this situation? Am I failing the 100 question personality test that all places seem to have when you apply online? :laughing

You sound like an excellent Uber/Lyft candidate.

I'm a former auto and heavy equipment mechanic and now I analyze mechanical failures and provide support to the mechanics in the shop. My immediate local job market is very slim, so I've been looking in the nearby larger towns that I pass through on my commute. I've had a few good suggestions PM'd to me and I am going to look into those. I appreciate all the comments and suggestions so far!:thumbup

ahh...

depending on your living situation, auto mechanic can be a "work at home" opportunity... right ?

I think it may be time to start doing some auto repairs at home. All my tools are at home now that I'm more or less a desk jockey. Gotta keep it to small jobs so I don't become "that neighbor"

You could also offer to work "on site" at the auto owner's house ;)

If I was an employer and saw that you wanted a second job it would make me apprehensive about hiring you. My concern would be that the position would always be a "second job" to the potential employee. If something happened in the employees life, the second job would be the first thing to go.

How are you marketing yourself?

Yeah but you don't have to offer beni's and you get to try someone out for less than you would if he/she were full-time. If it's working out really well, you can likely pull them in because they're clearly branching out, just doing it in kind of a responsible/conservative manner.

Don't tell them it's a second job. Misspell stuff, write in txt, use lolwtfbbq and you'll be a sure shot. :party

I got a call from one of the temporary springtime positions at a home improvement store. I applied over a month ago so I figured I wasn't what they were looking for. I have an interview next week. Sounds like what I am looking for, just 3-4 hours an evening a few nights a week. Assembling BBQs, patio furniture, etc. Almost sounds relaxing after staring at a computer all day:thumbup

That's about the speed in which they hire lol. You will notice that most people complain that work there haha

I really did enjoy my time at HD when it was a second job. It was no stress for me, I took it seriously but not too serious so I got stressed. Punch clock, do work, Punch clock again.
