SF moto thief arrested 13 times

OaklandF4i

Darwin's exception
SFPD caught the thief of my CBR red handed within minutes and only blocks away ON my bike. DA’s office didn’t feel the need to prosecute as it was his third strike and didn’t feel the sentence would be justified. I WISH this was the only story I could personally share from SF.

Fuck that. That was long before this current moron got into the DA’s chair. My beloved city has become a shit hole due to so many good intentioned but completely moronic folks. There is progressive, and then just plain stupid. SF is just plain stupid.

At some point after bike number 3(?), the city becomes liable for everything stolen afterwards, imo.

Reading down in the replies (to the above link) it shows that the SF DA is having a Town Hall meeting tonight and is asking questions for this be sent to...

Submit questions in advance to districtattorney@sfgov.org -- looking forward to hearing from you and answering your questions!

I'd suggest as many folks as possible email the DA and ask how his "team" can let this repeat offending thief go free to continue stealing from his area of responsibility.
Be sure to provide a link to the first post Twitchy story.

Now, of course, they are going to pre-screen the questions and select what he wants to respond to (it is my understanding that this is not "live") but I think if enough emails come in it could initiate action. Much needed action, obviously.

Maybe cc other SF entities for more visibility.
(links provided below)

Such as...
- the Mayor (MayorLondonBreed@sfgov.org)
- the SFPD chief (SFPDchief@sfgov.org)
- and lastly the alphabet news channels
-- KGO/ABC 7 (link)
-- KPIX/CBS 5 (link)
-- KNTV/NBC 11 (link)

A flood of inquiries to these folks could generate "a story" that could result in proper results. And that would be jail/prison time for the thief.
Thieves suck!

Hmmmmm... good info John.

Maybe BARF in general should do something. Actually I know it should, but before I do it would be great to build on this thread with more replies.

For now.. email sent to the DA.

Subject: Town Hall Question - Motorcycle Thieves in SF

Dear Ms. Boudin,

As the owner of Bay Area Riders Forum we have seen hundreds of our members get stung by Motorcycle thieves over the years.
Despite the police catching many they continue to be released and repeat the action as noted in the twitcy article.

https://twitchy.com/gregp-3534/2020...aign=nl&bcid=1e297f4dddb3f36a88eea2e9001bb971

I think 13 times in 18 month is enough to take action.
At want point will you enforce actions against the criminals and protect your citizens who ride motorcycles?

Look forward to your response.

Thank you

Denny

Keep in mind a couple of competing factors:

1) a few years ago we voted for a prison reform law that moved a lot of lower risk (less violent) offenders away from State prisons and now they do their time in County jails, at COUNTY EXPENSE.

2) Jailing offenders in State prison cists about $50k per year. I could be off a bit on that as it has been a while since I read anarticle on that point.

3) DA represents the County he works for.

4) the County has a budget.

5) DA is charged with NOT sending people to jail that will blow the COUNTY budget on the jail...

I am sure the DA wants to remove felons from tge street BUT he also doesn't want to bankrupt the County either and you can be sure that the County Supervisors are pressuring the DA to NOT bankrupt the County...

Yet the citizens demand felons be removed from the street...

Maybe we need to bring back public hanging for modern horse (motorcycles and cars) thieves...

Not sure if the Ms. was intentional or not, but kudos.

Good info George!
Sad that it (always) seems to come down to $$$.

As for the last sentence in your reply I'd be for a good public tar-and-feathering and drag down the street behind said stolen moto.
Shouldn't cost the county anything.
(and the tar may patch a few potholes)

Dear DA Boudin,
Having been the victim of theft, and having had several of my friends who live in San Francisco have their motorcycles and cars stolen, and work trucks stolen or broken in to and tens of thousands of dollars of tools stolen, I’m a little taken aback to read the post by the SF Police Department about catching a motorcycle thief, and arresting him for the THIRTEENTH time in 18 months.

Link: https://twitchy.com/gregp-3534/2020...aign=nl&bcid=1e297f4dddb3f36a88eea2e9001bb971

How is it that you can feel good about the job you’re doing, when unrepentant scofflaws like this flip the bird and thumb their nose at you and your office, because they know you’re running a “catch and release” program?

I guess you don’t know what it’s like to have just one vehicle to get yourself to work, and no place safe to keep it because you can’t afford any of the “nice” neighborhoods (like yours) in the City.

I’m old enough to remember when San Francisco was a beautiful, clean, safe city. Apparently you are not. Go watch the Steve McQueen movie Bullitt, and see what your city USED to look like… and be ashamed of what it’s become, and what you are NOT doing to make it better.
It is YOUR job as the district attorney to keep the dangerous human detritus off the streets, and make sure that crime actually has CONSEQUENCES.
Do your damn job, Sir.

Connie, yours is great.

I’m actually in favor of prosecuting theft and while it’s not considered a violent crime, offenders should receive some sort of detention- especially repeat offenders. This shit HAS to stop!

If Chesa Boudin stepped off a curb today and got hit by a SFMTA bus, I can't say I'd exactly be sad.

im trying to imagine how the fuck you get caught that many times and not learn, at the very least, how not to get caught. they must know they wont get prosecuted .

It goes way beyond that. I worked at a SUD treatment facility that focused on individuals recently released from incarceration. There is a distinct pattern within the culture these guys live in. There are multiple avenues of denial specifically revolving around the notion they won't get caught. They think they're smarter than the average bear, the rest of us are just idiots. Most of them sincerely believe they'll get away with what they're doing and if they get busted it was merely a matter of bad luck. A common term used is "that's when I caught my charge", like being charged with a crime is similar to getting the flu or something....somewhat inevitable but no big deal.
And then there is just general apathy. These guys deep down just don't give a fuck.
If none of this makes sense to you that's understandable. People that understand the notion of consequences don't think the way they do.
