PETALUMA; HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION IN RELATION TO FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION
On October 2, 2020 at approximately 1:21 a.m., the Petaluma Police Department was contacted by the California Highway Patrol regarding a fatal traffic incident that occurred in the southbound lanes of the 101 freeway, north of the East Washington overpass.
A Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway struck a southbound Honda Fit, head-on. The impact resulted in the death of the motorcycle driver (a 34-year-old male), and major injuries to the driver and sole occupant of the Honda (a 24-year-old female). The latter was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive.
The driver of the Honda had been trapped inside her burning vehicle but was pulled to safety by a civilian passerby.

:wtf

Why a homicide investigation and not a suicide investigation?

I know that on/off ramp situation and you'd have to be really drunk/high to go north on the south exit ramp.

More information. Looks like the rider allegedly killed a woman before he rode on 101.

At approximately 2:00 a.m. on the morning of October 2, 2020, the Petaluma Police Department received a citizen’s request for a welfare check on a woman at a residence on the 700 block of Sixth Street. Officers conducting the welfare check discovered a deceased 28-year-old female adult inside the residence.
The totality of circumstances suggests the death on Sixth Street and the fatal incident on the freeway are related events. The California Highway Patrol and the Petaluma Police Department’s Investigations Unit are coordinating their respective investigations, along with further assistance from the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office.
As the investigation remains active and Coroner’s Office notifications are pending, names of the involved parties and further details concerning the deaths are not being released at this time.
As of this writing, it is not believed that there are any outstanding suspects or that there is an on-going threat to the general community.

Well this all sounds positively horrific. I wonder if the folks in the Honda were just in the wrong place at the wrong time or if the HD guy knew them. Condolences and best wishes to all.

Sounds like the conclusion to Sons of Anarchy.

If the dead woman and the Harley were linked, it could be a murder/suicide.

Sad all around. I feel really bad for the Honda driver. She's lucky that someone was around and had the fortitude to pull her out, not exactly a lot of people out at 1AM! That must've been scary as hell to experience.

Was riding south on 680 Tuesday afternoon (4:45) and was slowed by CHP doing the all-lane-weave around Automall Pkwy. Came to a stop to see that an older man was pulled over on the roadside GOING NORTH IN THE SOUTHBOUND “fast lane”. If this had happened after dark it probably would have resulted in carnage.

The above sure sounds like an intentional crash.

Homicide is a general term to say someone died. After the investigation, a new term will likely be applied.

I just wish that when someone wants to kill themselves, they just go ahead and do that instead of taking it out on other people. It's the ultimate in selfishness

Sure sounds like an intentional act of suicide after committing a homicide. The Honda driver would have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
