Great write up Stan,

I am still waiting to get my 2009 KTM 690 SMC rebuilt. Ran into that rocker arm bearing issue. She is sitting in my garage cause every time I saved up the cash to get it taken care of something else comes up.

This thread kinda motivated me to at least clean her up a bit. I almost made a huge mistake of selling her for cheap practically give her away, i'm glad the fool changed his mind. When these bikes are running, they are so much fun on Mines/Del Puerto and other back road twisties even with a mediocre rider.

It shouldn't be much more than $80 per rocker arm + new seals for the valve cover.

Well, if you ever change your mind, i'll buy it and rebuild it:cool

But seriously, get that bike running! There's a reason why the 690 SMCs command so much money, there is nothing like it! I guess you can buy a Husky 701 for 13K OTD.

If you decide to get rid of it, I recommend a VStrom 650.

Maybe your new project can be a VStrom 650 streetfighter.

New project started and almost done.

Wait, what?

How long did you even own that 690 for? Why all the effort to rebuild if it just goes right out the door? I've never seen somebody go through vehicles as fast as you do. :wow

The gist of it, is I do it for fun. It's gotten to the point where I make a few thousand on each bike I sell, but I don't do it for monetary reasons. But it adds to the pot, letting me buy more and more bikes.:ride

Wut, bodda you?
yeah, moving fore and aft is no go on hypers, even the first gen.

I don't find that to be true with the first gen stock seat. So much so that I have gone back to the stock seat after trying out both the low and sport version.

I find that I can move around quite a bit which helps with shifting weight fore and aft for weighting the front or rear ends :teeth

My first gen hyper is. The. Most. Fun. :ride
