Picked up an Anniversary Edition 2006 YZ450F

When I rode out to Cave Creek, Az, I had to make Cameron's Shop my first stop because I know he always has cold beer and cheap motorcycles.

I bought an 06 Yz450F with hardly any hours on it; it still has the original rubber.

I've been wanting to do the La Barstow to Vegas ride for like 15 years so we sat and talked logistics for an afternoon. He's going to get me a hotel in Vegas and drive me back to LA, to the starting point after the ride. :thumbup

Cameron's made it street legal with title; sent the suspension too AJ's performance in Phoenix to have it set up for my weight and he's delivering it to LA on the 15th where I'll meet with him to make the swap.

:party I can't wait to ride this fooker to work! Errr.. I mean race these enduro's.. :teeth

Nice bike but with an oil change every few tanks of gas it might not make a very good commuter.

Yeah but it's a dual sport now.. so it opens up a whole nother set of rides I can do. :teeth Barstow to Vegas.. sheet iron.. so on so forth.. D36 an D37 Enduros..

Man.. if that was in my garage I'd give up internet porn for a few weeks! :teeth Yamaha dirtbikes should ALL be yellow and black like your aniversary modle. Add a plate... and.. oh shit... hand me a kleenex...

All my hero's rode yellow and black YZ's. Hannah, Brock, Too Tall Bell, Johnson.

I had that exact same bike, still had the original tires, too. Did a re-jet, bigger pilot was it, added a spark arrestor, factory skid plate, some Cycra hand guards and that was it. A pretty good bike, actually, the best dirt bike I had ever owned. Traded it off for a GSXR1000 Superbike.

And yellow and black is the fastest color.

Does it stall off idle if you wack the throttle open fast? I bought a slightly used WR and had that issue. Seems a lot of 4 stroke dirt bikes need their accelerator pumps tuned if it's never been touched. Which may be the case if it got little use.

I can see that; the bike I rode out there ran slightly better in the high desert; the pilot is lean here at sea level.

No I don't recall any engine hiccups at all, it ran and started easily/good. But I do remember thinking it could use a stabilizer for the steering and the rear tire would not hook up at all so I'm having some suspension work done.

BTW you arent really going to commute at that are you?

I work with a guy who rides his Ducati Corsa to work.. Why not? eh?

Work to ride, ride to work! ;)

Would it make you feel better if I rode by your house? BRRRRAAAAPPPPPPP.. Can't mistake that twin cam noise.

Completely different animal than a WR. Throttle response on these is excellent, especially with a bigger pilot (one size if I remember correctly).

WRs are soft, the YZ has a really hard edge to it.

It's really sensitive to sitting around. Mine didn't get ridden for a few months and the pilot circuit clogged up from the cheesy gas. Cleaned it out, put a new pilot in it again, and it was all good.

This would not make a street bike, nevertheless a commuter!

Very short ratio gearing, high maintenance, and you'd be rebuilding the top end every month.

It's a YZ for chrissakes! :)

Sweet sex on wheels..... that bike is just too damn nice to destroy commuting. I rarely ride my TE on the street even though its plated. Rebuilds just come around too frequently and too costly. It isnt an XR....

But a dirtbike on the street always reminds me of highschool. We used to ride our 2 smokers to school... without a plate. Different era and no one cared. See a cop, jump in the ditch and off into the woods. :ride
