New Phone Advice

K my galaxy s10+ of two years just broke. Just made my last payment on the damn thing this past bill :mad

Screen repair was quoted at $300 so figured that's a good chunk towards a new phone

The s10+ has really done everything I want out of a phone so I don't need a flagship, just an equivalent as far as tech specs (2 year old phone, shouldn't be hard) but I also don't mind the newest bells and whistles if it's worth it, seeing how much time i spend on the dang thing. Want to pick up today

Recommendations? Thanks

Oh, verizon is my provider

I got a Samsung Galaxy A71 5G for $200 a few months back. No contract. Has the 5Gs and was cheap with near-flagship specs. That is all. Works fine for everything, I do not do any gaming or whatnot on my phone. The camera looks really good to me, but I'm not a camera geek either.

5G is way slower than LTE also. If I knew that when I was buying I probably would have looked at other phones too.

Edit: I had to mail in an old phone I had laying around that was semi-broken to get that price. I ordered directly from Samsung where they let you trade in your old phone for credit.

i really don't wanna "learn" a new OS
i'd probably have tried an iphone by now if every single thing that plugged into it wasn't also proprietary. Which is in itself silly because what's the cost of another charger in the grand scheme of things? It's the principle though :x

It was between the oneplus, v60. I considered the pixel 5 but 4000 mah battery vs 5000 and a slower/older processor with a higher price tag made it not in the final running.

Oneplus and the v60 really just came down to price.

I’ve never bothered setting up my phone for Apple Pay but it seems like a great idea. Should put that on my to do list.

SO MUCH MORE CONVENIENT than just taking out my card.. that also has the ability to do contactless payment...

Walled Garden Software in general makes me itchy.

Yea pretty much. My card is in my phone case and that seems to be the easiest.

Also, I don't think Apple Pay is any different in that respect to Google Pay or Samsung Pay.

I've only tried Google Pay and the fact that I had to unlock my phone to use it made it more annoying than just using a contactless credit card. Not sure if that's different with Apple somehow.

Guess no one other than me has ever had a card get damaged and yet still had to pay for something. Would be nice having a backup without that backup being another $100 a year card. Not old school enough to carry cash.
