Funny, I looked it up too and thought, well not the virgin islands and ended up finding one on Cache creek, lots of Buck Islands out there.

Glad to see this thread spin up. I'm riding down to San Diego on 8/4 and was hoping to split the ride and camp some point on the way. I love Prewitt ridge, but would refer something further south, and probably not requiring Hwy 1 before SLO. Any suggestions?

The Nacimiento-Fergusson campground is close to that, so not much further south.

Jalama, north of Santa Barbara is a neat beach, but windy! There's also a few on the coast further down like Rufugio, El Capitan and one more I believe. There's also one or two north of Ojai on 33, that would be convenient if you took 58. If you are looking for dispersed, you could camp around the Corrizo Plain.
