Need to talk to us, but it's not an emergency? Call us at 1-800-TELL-CHP (1-800-835-5247) for non-emergency purposes, like accident reports, tow questions, CHP office locations, vehicle theft tips, community outreach programs. CHP has personnel that answers the 1-800-TELL-CHP telephone number 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

I would just let it go and consider yourself fortunate to ride away with no contact.

An LEO can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that unless they witness the infraction themselves, nothing can be done.

Besides, it didn't really look like a split to me, more of a really close pass to get in front of you. I've seen bikes do the same or worse to cars all the time.

You’re fine... you didn’t die.

Probably the same phone line used to report hitting 96 on mines road...

Not as fast as I look.
Basically.

Also, what's the violation?
Nothing. He was lane sharing. It has been a huge mistake to change the original wording from sharing to splitting in my opinion. That car has the same rights as a motorcycle. Never forget that we are equal but much smaller. :teeth

That guy was telling the o.p., what I tell cars all the time on my bike. You are blocking the left lane. You are not keeping up with the flow. Move over. Your opinion may differ. But, it looks very familiar to me.

Let it go. Nothing can be done.

Was he lane sharing or was he merging into your lane and didn't see you?

He was tailgating for some time (I often do mirror check, you actually can see me checking mirror few times) - next lane was empty, but he decided it would be fine to pass me in the same lane...

Yeah, we're equal in rights, but afaik, if I'm occupying the lane, that lane "belong" to me pretty much, what if I had to swerve to avoid some crap/pot hole/jumped animal on road, and for "some" reason there is a car making pass on me in the same lane. When you share you understand your "lane" is just a small piece of full lane, which belong to car, and you're just "passing though", so you act accordingly.

I don't expect drivers to move for me to give me room to split/share, and I expect the same from drivers - if I'm hugging left part of lane it's doesn't mean you should be passing me in the same lane - it's okay for another motorcycle, and usually in this case person will wait for some signal (wave or whatever, which acknowledges that I'm aware of his/her presence and okay if you pass me)

And yeah, report 96 on mines is a bit different story though, there are no traffic in sight, I'm not "sharing" space with anyone, and I usually slow down for bicyclist and other mines rd habitants. People who complain about 96 on mines, are you really follow speed limits everywhere? 65 on hwy and 25 on redwood rd too? (it's more rhetorical question..)

Just a bit of perspective for you...

Also there's no way in fuck you'd have time to react/swerve to a hazard in the road doing near as makes no difference 100 MPH on a road with a speed limit of 55. You're nearly double the speed limit, and at that speed it takes well over 300 feet to stop.

I don't know that would even get my attention- let alone all the wild gesturing. You're on a bike man, just gas it on by and worry about vastly more important stuff- like what's for dinner or if Durant is able to play.

Justify it all you want, bud.

Do you see the irony of wanting justice for a traffic violation captured on video and then having a video of you committing a more egregious traffic infraction posted on your YouTube page?

Our local traffic commissioner might find that car driver guilty of an unsafe lane change. He would most definitely find you guilty and suspend your license at least 30 days for 96mph in a 55mph zone.

(on perspective)
Actually if that pass did motorcycle, I would be fine, because
a) normal people feel more vulnerable on motorcycle than in car, and would try to weight in options before doing anything, which might disrupt "line" of other person (person can be in car, on motorcycle, on freaking horse) (it's just common sense, no?)

b) since moto is smaller - pass takes less time, and going back to "a", person who is doing a pass probably would expect that I might have to do some maneuver, so they want to make pass as fast as possible.

c) as I mentioned I usually wave (or signal somehow) to faster rider, even if they would have pass me in middle of lane, i would be fine with that pass, because I expecting that. I do not expect 3000 lb heavy metal object doing close passes when there is an empty lane next to mine, which only trigger huger "red flag" in my head - that person is probably not aware about common sense, and I have no fucking idea if he/she doing to run over me or just want to make a pass.

(didn't get your point about 100mph, and how it related to passing in the same lane - no one was doing 100mph)

So far I'm getting that it's okay to pass motorcyclist in the same lane, because lane sharing is legal... well, good to know.

You missed my point, I was trying to point out that lane sharing is equally scary for some car drivers when a moto passes them in the same lane.

I understand you're trying to justify your actions. I also understand people are likely going to dogpile on you for the hypocrisy, especially in an LEO subforum... so I'll leave it at that.

Yeah, I kind of realized that I made a mistake asking my question here... funny though that so far I see that people are okay to be passed close in same lane and tailgated on busy highway, but not okay when someone is doing N amount over speed limit on empty road, in middle of nowhere(because everyone is going speed limit, always, on all roads. talking about hypocrisy).

I guess I'll wait until similar thing happen to one of LEOs, wondering what the outcome is going to be (and would like to talk about hypocrisy after)

Mines is definitely NOT the middle of nowhere. :laughing

You got spooked by a car and got mad and thought BARF would be sympathetic. :laughing :laughing
