Improving BARF User Experience

many forums are compatible with mobile apps like tapatalk - i'm not a huge fan of that app but it works well IMO and you can upload images from your phone pretty easily. I have no idea how big of a pain it is to do that but just throwing it out there.
And most annoyingly, the people who use it usually leave in the message that is often bigger than whatever trivial comment they wrote, indicating that the message was brought to you by tapatalk. How dorky is that! :rolleyes :nerd :twofinger

i'm liking the 'improved' version on mobile; was using the mobile skin (gs5, chrome), and was getting some really weird inconsistent sizing issues, so i mostly barf'd in firefox. 'improved' version seems pretty great..only nit i saw in some brief browsing was some oversized signature logos.

that said, i more often tend to brows on the desktop, and am pretty content with the standard skins there.

The size limitation is the issue every time - an iphone photo is typically a couple MB at least, it requires re-sizing which I can't easily do from my phone. It's why I and a lot of others post pics to fb instead.. like I said, mods are aware and working on it I believe :)

Take pic.

Revert the pic if you wish.

Not that hard ....takes less than 30 secs.

I have tried the new layout on my android phone.
The good part is that no need keep adjusting the posts and resigning. All the posts neatly fit in to the screen.

The bad part is the username is now between posts, and I think font is bigger. So more scrolling is required to see all the posts.

For me personally I prefer the current layout.

Not sure what happened, but a morning restart got me back to normal. :rolleyes

All ok now...:teeth:thumbup

New theme looks much better on my iPhone 6S. The minor complaint is this message field I am typing is a few pixels too wide but very close.

I see the Forum Jump dropdown goes away on small displays. Surely that can be kept? It's valuable to speed up navigation.

Agree on that point Rodr. Also the "To the Top" button does not appear to have made it in. Other than that I like it on my iPhone 6s as well.
With any change will come some growing pains no matter what the platform. Keep up the good work.

I don't see the emoji box either. This must rectified ASAP! Or it's just me not seeing it.

i only want one thing from any change... to not have to click that little checkbox next to the thread title to be taken to the first unread post. zooming in to that on mobile is a pain.

Not really a fan of the new color scheme, but I wasn't really a fan of the old color scheme either. So, I'm sure I'll get used to it again. Add one more voice to the chorus of "can we get a dark theme?" But all in all, it looks decent.

I'll also agree that the header section looks a little oddly sized & empty. Aesthetically, you can tell the BARF logo wasn't designed for the current look. Also, the ad section looks a bit unbalanced too. Like it could be smaller and maybe would look better with a thin border or something?

The page counter at the bottom of the posts, it says you're on Page 4 of 4, but didn't the classic site also have the page that you were looking at in a different font or color? That isn't carried over into this version. A tiny thing, but a thing I noticed.

Any slight negatives on the desktop site are far outweighed by the improvements to the mobile site. I'm sorry, but the old mobile site was terrible and it's awesome to see it updated.

All that said, really appreciate what you guys are doing behind the scenes.

Talking colors...What's the thoughts out there?

I personally always regarded the BARF style as no-nonsense and utilitarian more than anything else. We can certainly take this opporunity to spice it up and brand it a bit(?)
  • We could mimic the colors of the original template into this new stylng
  • Generally gray OK?
  • A whole different color scheme?
  • A "dark" theme will come after a "standard" is settled on and most of the "bugs" are tweaked out.

The responsive format is a vast improvement for phone usability, so thanks for putting it up. As far as the theme on a PC, I'm still getting used to it, but no complaints.

I generally like the new mobile format on my iPhone6+. Didn't the old format tell you who posted the most recent post and give you a link to that post? Could we have that back? Seems like I have to hit the last page and scroll to the most post.

You tap/click on one of those bad boys to get to the last post.

So far my only complaint about the new theme is hyperlinks need a different style on the style sheet because there are not easy to distinguish from normal text right now.

A different color, underline, something.
