Improving BARF User Experience

The "Nicky" color scheme is an OLLLLD modded scheme with darker colors. I like it too.

Once we finish "mechanical" adjustments needed, we can look at other color schemes to make available.

If i can toss in 1 item that affects both mobile and standard pages... can we get auto image resizing? someone posts a photo that happens to be a tad large and everything is super tiny on my mobile device.

I'm on an iPhone, safari browser. I like the simple look of responsive. Would love to be able to post pics from my cell, I know barf is aware of that desire. Switching back to standard for now, can't stand how the words break up/wrap from line to line. Thank you guys for trying to make the site better much appreciated!

Ads no longer making the width incorrect but I guess they are removed.
The green is a bit hard on the eyes, sorry kawi guys, overall color palatte should be smoothed out, it feels bit 1990s myspace to me.
Text wrap is still breaking words oddly
Avatars still seem disproportionately big to me
Other than that so far it otherwise looks good and works better on mobile.
My biggest gripe on the old platform on mobile devices was the pop up menus being small

For reference, the only other forum I frequent and enjoy regularly on my phone is teton gravity research. I like their layout also.

Playing with word wrap code. Hopefully the weird "hypenation" is no longer happening and its just breaking normally.

First one is from iPhone 4(Safari), second one from Samsung Note 5(Chrome).

I don't like the color scheme.

The overall feel and look though is easy to use and actually better on the cellphone than the normal page.

While the colors aren't my favorite, on mobile it's vastly improved (iPhone 6 - Safari).

that's easy to do, go advanced, click the paperclip. It should load a new browser window, choose file, select where it's coming from or take photo, click upload, wait till it uploads, click close window and submit your reply

only issue sometimes is file size limitation

Please don't break it for those of us who only read BARF on desktop systems with large screens. The way that BARF works right now is better than any other forum out there, even if the ads have slowly started moving everything down the screen (used to could get to the Leo forum without scrolling down first).

I have nothing against those of you who want to do it on their phones but I'm not one of them. The only time I ever tried that was when my XR650L blew up its engine up in Foresthill and I had to get through to Connie. Ended up arranging my own transportation that time, but still appreciate those willing to help.


For those of us on normal computers, you probably can't improve BARF much. So make sure that you don't make anything worse for us. Thanks. :cool

There are those of us who barf on both platforms and think it could use improvements all around...

Colors make it hard to read. It really strains to differentiate gray, black, teal, tan, and white when they are close together. I like old style and colors with the format of the new.

How much revenue is generated from ads? Can we make it a donation membership platform instead? I know it is already somewhat supported like this but maybe we could push to increase participation? Like a link "I donated" like previous "contribution (+)" notation.

Switched back to normal. It may be old but it surely is much easier to read (see: colors). I like the squared format rather than the rounded format than the newly adopted round stuff that is pushed by Apple (see: Imsg

There are image resize apps for iPhone also.

many forums are compatible with mobile apps like tapatalk - i'm not a huge fan of that app but it works well IMO and you can upload images from your phone pretty easily. I have no idea how big of a pain it is to do that but just throwing it out there.

I'm also in the camp of wanting to upload photos via mobile device - using a hosting site is a giant pain/#1 reason i don't upload more. I'm sure these are tough demands - i'd be willing to donate more to make it happen - i'm sure we can go motivate a fundraising round to make it happen if that were the issue - happy to help with that.
