Dave,

Will drop a check in the mail to help out a fellow X racer passionate moto man.

Sorry to hear life is throwing stones at you. Not as easy to dodge as when we were young. Keep the head up man.. really. Don't by in to the sadness.. rekindle the memories of the good times.. and find a way to :teeth

It will help.
Thanks Dennis. I'm hanging in there; the hand/fingers are my biggest issues right now as it even impedes typing...thus haven't been saying too much lately. Going to ortho doc tues....

Hey Dave
Name your tire. Might be something we run at the shop, if so I can pick it up at cost, or see if I can get one at a greatly reduced price.

Cool! I've been primarily a Dunflop guy since the 70's; I've also run Pirelli's & Michelin's occasionally. Recently I was given a BS BT016 for a rear tire for a Xmas present. I like to match brands on both ends, so would like something in the same brand/ballpark handling quality for the front. This is my 1st experience w/Bridgestones ever.

My only concern about tyres is that they are good in the twisties; as that's the only riding I do these days = relaxed riding up in the hills. I ride the street to get to the curves. I can adjust riding style a bit for other areas. I wanted a Q2 but now that i have the band new Bridgestone mounted to the rear, I'd like to get a matching "front."

Hey Dave, if you change your mind about the Bstone, I'm going to have a 120 / 70 Q2 with some track and little commute on it, available after next weekend.

I'm just up in road in Oakland if you need a hand with wrenching, or any puter/IT needs

I will see about a front. I run the BT 023 and like em
THanks, I'd like to match the front to back, just to see. I've been a dunflop guy for decades, but as I now have a BS on the back, would like to try a matching front.

I just hope I'm not disappointed as I've always liked the "slow-drift" feel of the DP. I just don't do that anymore really excepting for the occasional tar-snake or other slippery item hit....getting too old for sliding the front around. :laughing

Thanks for the kind offer; don't throw it away= throw it my way! :laughing

Thanks for the offer of wrenching/IT needs. I will be ready f/bike wrenching soon as I'm still cleaning ex-roommate's garage mess out. I also need some IT help as one of the pc's blew it's HDD & of course I didn't have a backup. On my kids pc right now which is being shared by 4 users= not good. I need help getting the stupid thing to connect to the internet...me & networking= not good.

Sure would be nice to have a seperate machine from the kids; they DL anything that comes along & I know they going to get hit...:thumbdown

I want to take this opportunity to thank Budman & significant other for their very large & generous donation. THANK YOU!!!! :thumbup

This gives me enough $ for a new tire, & maybe a brake fix (or partial?) Theirs nothing like front end woes to an ex-roadracer. I used to hang everything on front-end feel, & now being able to get a new front tire & maybe fixing the other woes is just tits man!

I can now look forward to getting s ride later this summer. Thank you again Dennis...:thumbup :thumbup :thumbup

Another thanks for those of you who were kind enough to contribute. I've got a tire coming, brakes, gas filter, oil & filter, petcock seal, etc. A ZRX guy has committed to cleaning the crud out of my carbs & doing a TOTAL rebuild for free (sending them to AZ), & I got some nice textile gear given to me. WOW!!!

I still need several things, but w/the above I'm getting closer. I was just sold a valve gasket set for cost (valve adjust), guy threw in the petcock seal (grommet) for free, & another offer to trade rotors (warped) w/another ZRX guy. Hopefully that will fix the brake woes ?

Never realized the kindness so many can show to a family in need. I want to convey my sincerest thanks to you all. With the above, I should be back aboard soon! :thumbup :teeth :ride

How much do you think it will be to finish off this project? I have a lot to pay forward and I would like to contribute to you getting back on board the bike!

Hi there; well it's not so much a ton of money, but I need help w/the wrenching since I now have both hands acting up (3 fingers & several knuckles popping= ouch!) Twiddling a wrench is very difficult. I figure I can schedule a "wrenchday" meet for a holiday or something WHEN I get the garage cleaned up enough to be presentable. I'm too embarrassed to invite peeps here right now. :thumbdown

Here's a list of what I can remember @ 0-dark-thirty in the morning, I have knowledge to do all work except the caliper rebuild (haven't done that), just the friggin' hands are not working. Yes, still getting the run-around from the ortho-doc:

-remove carbs & send them off to Arizona for free rebuild offer
(only have to pay shipping, he's got all the parts)
-remove tank & clean all the crap out of it
-while I'm at that, need to install a fuel filter so this won't happen again
-remove petcock, replace gaskets/rubber grommet so it don't leak anymore
-while all the top-end stuff is off, should do a valve lash check/adjustment
-pull the front end apart, replace f-tire w/new as it should arrive any day now
(will have to take it to Cycle Gear to get tire mounted/balanced)
-pull front rotors off, & need to find either another used set? or replace both
(been trying to find some of those cheap rotors =$138 a set/no luck yet)
-pull front calipers & rebuild/replace parts= need to order rebuild kit for both
(this could be the cause of rotor warping/ =sticking caliper pots?)
-Should replace pads as the stockers have 15K miles on them but it's cheap

Other things I don't have the $ for: I'm not going to worry about suspension until I'm back aboard & riding, but here's the detail anyway...:

-Steering head bearings need replacing/notch in travel straight ahead
*Suspension: limp as a noodle on both ends, need front end rebuilt, & need
the rear shocks replaced as it's dangerous to ride right now
This is very expensive= I can ride it like that but it's hella scary! I've been looking for a used set of shocks since I bought it.

*(suspension is approximately $500 for front end rebuild, & the bad one, rear shocks can run anywhere from $500-$1000 (Ohlins/similar high-end shocks are out of the question as too expensive.) Again, I can ride it like that but I have to go slow & be ultra-careful. It's gets chatter right now going straight down the freeway..that's how bad it is. :thumbdown

These are on me:
Registration + penalties for being couple months late
Insurance (failed to renew, got dropped)

I know I missed some things, but these are the major things to get back on the road. To be safe, I need to do something eventually about the suspension, but sadly it's out of my price range as too expensive. I wouldn't expect any help from anyone on that as its not necessity items?

Thanks again for all your help...

Dave,

I'm willing to stop over and show you some exercises that will help get your dexterity back in your hands.

My Dad has the same thing happening to him and my grandpa had similar issues. I had a reasonable amount of success with my grandpa(Dad won't listen); after the first hour or so session, he was at least able to move his fingers enough to button his own shirt again. I think that was a big deal to him and he was pretty happy.

These exercises are reasonably painful at first but if you stick to it and work yourself into this for :30 min a day or more you'll experience a lot less pain that what you're going through now.

Dave, get the carbs boxed and pm me with box weights and dimensions. I'll cover the round trip shipping once you give me that information. :)

Will do; give me some time as getting carbs off this bike is going to take awhile (tank, hoses, cables, rubbers, etc. removal.)

Going to be real painful. It's a shame, the old ZRX I sold had "pod" K&N filters & you could get carbs off in 5 minutes. This bike is all stock, so will have to remove airbox & all kinds of emissions crap just to get to the carbs.

Thank you all again for your kindness & help, :teeth

had eye surgery the other day, now can't see sh_t captain! They say 4-6 weeks before I can see out of this eye again- sucks! Lost nighttime sight & now "crosseyed" during day. Soooo...not on internet/pc as much cuz it gives me headaces.

They want to do other eye when this one gets better so gonna be awhile before I can ride/drive. waaa waaaaa! :mad

Recruit some of us to come over and be your hands and eyes, finish your bike and get the bike ready for when you are; :thumbup I know 'ZRX' inside out. Wouldn't take me long to put it together.

Hi Chad,

Yeah I been thinking along the lines of having a "Wrenchday" here for quite some time now. Problem is the place is such a mess the wifie doesn't want anyone coming over right now. It's damn embarrassing to say the least.

I want to at least get the garage halfway cleaned up before doing this, then I'd get a Wrenchday going. I'm sure we could get a bunch of folk from both BARF & ZRXOA to come buy & help get this ride going. I'd sure like to ride a couple times before season ends.

I don't think it will happen because I'm not driving right now because of the eyes, & not wrenching because of the hands/fingers. Hopefully I can get one or the other cleared up soon; but the docs at Kaiser are such arseholes. I'm having a hard time getting the old bod going...

update:

Previous eye surgery didn't go well; I have about 1/2 the sight I had when I went in for that eye. I'm pretty miffed; now they want to put me under the knife, & do some cutting on the optic nerve! On 10/24....great.

I'm very afraid to do this, but they did a bunch of testing & took pics & showed me= the retina's are separating from the back of the eyeballs (diabetes complication.) So they want to cut the optic nerve, saying it will "pull" on the back of the eyeball/retina putting retina back in place & rectifying the situation. It sounds like complete bull pucky but what option do I have?

I'm now down to reading w/one eye, & the ortho problems have gotten worse, now 5 fingers lost of the 10. Ortho doc wants me to do physical therapy which I been doing at home, but it's not helping. Losing the ability to type, so I'm slowing down my efforts on all the websites including this one, which has been my priority. Sux !!! :mad

Expect me to become less & less online as typing w/5 fingies & 1 eye is pretty hard. I can't see the speedo on the bike, or in the cage. I'm pretty sad as it's starting to look like riding may be gone for me...

Enough whine for now....

Fuck man I'm so sorry to hear this. Always pulling for you, if it gives you any hope I post with no fingers. If you go through with it how much can it improve?

Thanks for the thoughts man.

I'm curious how you post w/no fingers? I've already got the program "Dragon Naturally Speaking" which is good for letter writing. It has a voice interface for all commands.

Wondering what your using?
