Dollar minimums for credit card.

Fear me!
Smaller business can't negotiate card fees like the big companies. Costco somehow managed to get Visa to agree to a fee of less than 0.4% back when they switched from Amex to Visa in ~2016 :wtf

Went to go get lunch today at a local place and the total was $9 but when I pulled out my card they pointed to the sign that said $10 minimum for card.
What magic happens in the system after the $10 mark?
Is it really worth them loosing a sale?
Is it their fault for having a shitty POS system?
I hate carrying cash.

If the average check is less than a certain amount, the credit card co. will take a bigger percentage of the gross. So it is an effort to increase the average. :wow

I just buy a bag of chips or a drink until I'm over the minimum.

The real story here is that there's still somewhere in the bay area where you can buy lunch for under $10.

Does PayPal or any other tech charge less.

If the customer understood the extra cost was being passed to them, then the customer my go through the trouble to choose to a lower cost alternative.

What does Apple Pay do when you use cash?

There is a place near my house that charges $0.25. I take out $20 from their ATM which charges me $2.50 and then is refunded by Schwab. Suck it processing fees.

Small businesses pay 3% processing fees. That comes straight out of your mark up. It kills the mark up on a small purchase.
I charge 3% for credit card processing. It is legal but was not allowed contractually by the processing companies. That has changed.

I remember buying a 99 cent tea (not so guilty pleasure) from a gas station I used the restroom in. I just like purchasing something when I use the facilities. Anyways, pull out the cc and the guy says something along the lines of "I don't make any money on these things when you guys pay with cards" . Don't remember much past that as it's been ages ago, but I always wondered why he even would carry the product if that were true.

Never know when you'll get talked into going to the vip section

Your story of the gas station restroom reminded me of an an incident 3 or 4 years ago where I really needed to go. But it was a restaurant and you needed a reservation and I had no intention of eating there.

I BS'd the guy saying I wanted to go in and check the menu, went inside and did my business. On the way out I gave him the $5 I had on me. He was really appreciative. I felt bad I didn't have more to give him, probably would have given $100 for a toilet at that moment if required.

Ms. BA and I took a day trip to Sonoma about two or three weeks a go. The county, or perhaps city, has mandated that no cash be used. The merchants hate it, but yeah, I paid for stuff for less than that on a card.

Whatever that means
I went back today and bought some cookies along with the tuna salad crepe and added avocado. Worth it. and now I got shortbread cookies with my coffee tomorrow.

They give away a little profit every time someone uses their CC. Small biz vs a Corp giant. I am all good with a limit. The powers of the land want to kill cash anyway. Smells of Corp payolla to me.

I almost always pay cash at small businesses. I get it. 3 bux on a Hundo adds up.

Being a small business owner accepting credit cards is an absolute loser.

Truth..... so OP

Put a fucking twenty in your pocket and get over it :twofinger
