Cracks in tires?

R3DS!X

Whatever that means
I was checking my tires and I noticed these small cracks, can a tire guru tell me what they mean? Is it time for new tires? It's only in the front.

Rear looks good!

Tires were replaced at the same time. Bike is 95% commute use.

It looks like you're down to the wear bars in the middle photo. That alone would be a good reason to replace the tire.

Er, I think you can see some cord in pic two.
Tires are cheap compared to tire failure. Er, crashes. They be ‘spensive.

Edit... wear bars. New tyres please.

Often referred to as dry rot - Oils and chemicals in the rubber compound evaporate or break down because of UV and/or ozone exposure. This results in the rubber losing its flexibility and cracking. If it were me, I would be looking to replace them. But then again, I would be replacing them because you've hit the wear bars also ;-)

Not the first time I've worn out the front tire first. I like my aggressive stopping and trail braking. Certainly the weight of the Eva isn't helping. I've pulled the ABS fuse out so I'm able to do stoppies and more aggressive braking.

Are we having fun yet?
I saw tears similar to that when the rear's worn, and assumed the rubber tore when it got too thin.

There is plenty of meat on the sides

I usually wear out the front sides first so I could at least go straight to squeeze more miles out it. I see you're in the other camp; so you have a giant circle to wear out the sides?

dry rot as stated above. yes its time for a new tire, especially with winter and rain coming. the hardened dry rubber is far less grippy and the lack of tread depth will suck in the wet.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
" If you have to ask if you need to replace your tires, you prob already know the right answer ".
As Butch and others have said, a couple hundred $$ in rubber will be a whole lot cheaper that what could happen if you prolong it. New tires will always make your bike feel fresh again :thumbup!

Those look like the cracks that form when the remaining layer of tread rubber is very thin, before the tire starts showing cords.

Might not want to wait for Christmas. Especially if it ever rains.

Could it be one of those two/three different rubber compound tires that extend milage. Harder in the center, softer on the sides?
Still getting close to cords though.
