The Sena speakers kind of suck but it's better than earbuds. If music is the most important thing, then UCLEAR intercoms are your best option. They were built for music and sound quality first.

But other others they make a pair of drop in speakers. Just the get the appropriate adapter for your intercom.

I am currently riding with the Sena 10R because it is more discrete.

That is why I use the Cardo Freedom, it uses 40mm in helmet speakers, but the plug is a normal 3.5mm jack, so you can you anything you want including custom or semi custom earplug headphones (the best option for wind noise reduction AND music).

If you are going to WorldSBK this year usually there is the custom earplug person where for about $300 you can get custom earplugs with dual driver headphones inside. They are amazing...otherwise you can get the headphones that are also earplugs for around $250...

I always regret when I go cheap...anything attached to your helmet should be quality including the helmet.

The Cardo line also are very good about being updated through their firmware through their website...so features and updates come fairly regularly...

Anyone else with specific experience with the no-name Chinese brands? Which ones?
Just not in the cards for me to spend $150-$200 for a top unit when I'm not sure if I will use it.

There are a number of units in the $40-$70 range - I'm planning on trying one out and will post up my results.

We've tried two different, but similar sets: one says "Model Number: FDCVB" on the instruction manual; the other one says "BT-S2" in the user manual. If I recall both were about $45 each, or $90 for two. In both cases battery life on a ride was around 2 hours - okay for a quick run for lunch or something, but if you're on the road burning up a tank of gas you'll be silent for a lot of the time. Also, the plastic mounting system is a weak point - they broke after a few months on the helmet. Overall, you get what you pay for.

Acoustic filters really help

Does anyone wear earplugs and also play music with the Sena speakers? i'd imagine that would be strange?

Yes, I wear earplugs with an acoustic filter and use a Sena 20S to listen to Podcasts or music. These have been amazing as they really improve the overall sound experience - the earplugs really help to deaden the wind, road and engine noise such that the Sena output is much clearer.

I've also been amazed at the call quality of the Sena. Anyone i've spoken to you the phone at freeway speeds has no idea that I was even on my bike.

Sena has headphone jacks on their mounts as well - I use in ear buds for street and the speakers for dirt.
