My solution is to stop screwing over people with Olympic Games that leave countries in deep financial trouble and leave giant gaping holes in the earth that were once swimming pools used by athletes.
You guys are really good at what aboutism
You are yet to find a thread that's sporting related that you don't shit all over.
We get it. You hate sports.

Can you suggest a better way to screw over cities financially and leave a giant train of ecological impact?
I for one am very interested in hearing how you would suggest we better accomplish these great things? Can you find a way to screw them out of more money or leave bigger holes?
Is it possible for you to ask that without the extra snark question which is only designed to antagonize?
A permanent Olympic venue is not a new idea.
Barney tells Walker in the early 80s, Greece proposed to host the Olympics indefinitely but the IOC overwhelmingly voted against it. He doesn't see the IOC changing their minds now.
"It goes against the spiritual basis of the movement as being an international movement," says Barney.
"The members of the IOC likes to see this in an international perspective: to visit these various cities in the world, this is an experience for them."
get rid of any sport where you arent in active competition with another athlete at the time of the competition, i.e pitted against your opponent

It doesn't matter, the corrupt IOC is against the idea for obvious reasons.

i don't really feel like investigating on my own now but is BreakDancing already something competitive? I agree it's on the level of ice dancing, Drifting, and snowboard half pipe as scored competitions aren't really competition any more than the student body president in gradeschool was anything more than a popularity contest ... but does this exist?
also how does one draw the line between break dancing and other forms of dance... what if someone throws in a bit of Whatever The Fly Girls did during In Living Color? a pirouette might fit but that's Ballet so does one get demerits for it in a break dancing competition?
i'm reminded of watching a Speed Walking competition during the olympics. apparently uit's been around since 1904 and is actually called RaceWalking but i digress.
there was highspeed/slow mo footage of the analysts showing the difference between running and walking is if both feet are in the air at the same time. Ok. this is a competition. there is a clock. there is a set of fact-based rules but WHY. WHY WHY did anyone ever decide to compete in this manner? if you want to race RUN. ffs.
i guess i'm in the camp of Olympics are kinda dumb. but also, even the actual concret sports are kinda dumb sometimes too. i look forward to competitive sleeping
I dig the Olympics.. both summer and winter with a lean towards winter.
The best part of the Olympics to me is seeing the athletes that dedicate their lives to get there and compete with each other.
Too bad about Tokyo this year. I think it will go next year though.
