Bay Bridge Tolls to increase

My youngest was just this morning, trying to calculate the revenue of the Bay bridge, based on his observation of number of cars through per minute - his calcs were over $400k/day.
Pretty decent business, but then again with the cost overruns of the new span (6.4 billions) it will still take them decades to pay it off.

Maybe the trick is to only travel East on the Bay Bridge, North on the Golden Gate, and East on the Richmond. Always free!

Fastrak uses transponders, I don't know what for. The actual billing involves a picture of your license plate being converted to text and then referencing a database for the correct toll to charge. A few years ago there was a trick ... The end result was no charge.

I know a few tricks for crossing the bridges on a bike for free. You know how they stay that way?

BECAUSE I DON'T POST THEM.

FYI BART fares automatically increase with inflation, no public comment or voting involved. If you want to gripe about regressive taxation you’d better start there because the half a million people who cross the Bay on BART every morning are poorer than the people driving cars across the bridge.

While I agree, BART is still way cheaper into SF, when I worked in SF a few years ago daily parking was around $35/day for a car and more if it was an "over sized" vehicle. Not including the aggravation of SF traffic, all the miles put on your vehicle, vandalism/hit & run, etc... BART fares are fairly reasonable, generally less than I would spend in gas for the same trip (I don't drive a Prius).

For me...

Driving:
Gas = $15
Toll = $7
Parking = $35
Wear & Tear/Maint = ?
Minimum Total = $57/Day!

BART:
Round trip fair = $10
Parking = $3
Gas = $4
Total = $17

I work in Oakland now and BART still makes more sense, it is cheaper than riding my motorcycle when you factor in tires and maintenance. I ride whenever I can since I enjoy riding over riding the train.

That's all fine when there's a BART station anywhere near where you live and/or work. Closest BART station to me is over a bridge and further than my work.
