Bay Bridge Tolls to increase

Just a reminder, tolls are set to increase soon.
I wasn't sure how much carpool and moto fees would increase, so I looked it up. Here are the tolls for the BB.

The $1 toll rises across the Bay Area go into effect on January 1, 2019...

The Bay Bridge tolls will increase to $5 on weekdays from midnight to 5 a.m., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to midnight. At peak commute hours on weekdays, from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., those tolls will go up to $7. On weekends, the new toll price will be $6.

New tolls for motorcycles, clean air vehicles (that qualify) and carpools will go up to $3.

Ok, now even I am annoyed.

Regressive taxes like this unfairly target lower-income citizens. If they need more money, tax the Billionaires, FFS.

Wait, new toll for motorcycles? I don't have to pay the full toll no more?

Edit: Only for commute times, goes up from 2.50 to 3. Sigh.

Teh bridge toll increase was voted for largely by people who don't have to cross bridges every day. :nchantr

They even said the opportunity for public comment "was mostly a formality" and the increase was a done deal no matter what.

FYI BART fares automatically increase with inflation, no public comment or voting involved. If you want to gripe about regressive taxation you’d better start there because the half a million people who cross the Bay on BART every morning are poorer than the people driving cars across the bridge.

Riddle me this.
In real world money, my $100 monthly bill for toll crossings will go up to $140 (in my car).

I'm still amazed there's any fee for carpool.

Wait, if motorcycle tolls are less than autos, and I use a FasTrak, how will they know to charge me the motorcycle toll?

You only get the motorcycle toll during peak hours, and you MUST be in the carpool lane.

Fastrak uses transponders, I don't know what for. The actual billing involves a picture of your license plate being converted to text and then referencing a database for the correct toll to charge. A few years ago there was a trick where you could ride the bot dots on the left side carpool lane to the Bay Bridge (the one with the metal trellis) and the cameras wouldn't trigger. The end result was no charge.
