BARF Militia

So, just curious if there's any Calgunners here and what your thoughts are on the Qanon based posts over there about the election. Sure seems like there's gonna be a lot of disappointed people on 1/20/21 when Biden takes the oath of office.

Browse it once in a while to keep tabs on current legislation. There's the occasional entertaining or informative thread in off topic or if I'm curious about a gun / part / scope / etc I can usually find what I'm looking for there. Aside from that I just lurk and don't post much, the place has definitely gone downhill the last few years and some people have gone off the rails. It's the opposite end of the spectrum from the more extreme elements in our own polsink here.

Damn I hate rifle reloading. I was working up a new .308 load and I guess I had my sizing die out of adjustment. I also fired some old loads which were probably made with it out of adjustment. Some rounds wouldn't chamber and some separated. I got a partial case stuck in my chamber and it took some work at home to get it out. I'll have to carry extra crap to the range in case of stuck cases.

I went through and gauged my old loaded ammo and culled a bunch of rounds that failed. I pulled out my decapping stem and resized them and some of them would not gauge, no matter what. I guess some brass is just bad. I decapped their live primers and shit-canned the bad brass.

Then there's all the time and effort I spent sizing, trimming, inside chamfering, and outside chamfering my fired brass. Oh well, beats buying it.

Gun nuts are some of the worst people on the planet.

There's a lot of truth in this.

The "Gun Culture" portrayed on the internet is different from Real World.

There is certainly some overlap, but the real world people, in general are much better than what filters through the internet.

And to be honest, I think they gravitate to different communities. They act as strange attractors and echo chambers where the bombastic can reverberate.

Unfortunately, its those communities that the fingers point to followed by "See!??".

Mostly true. Usually at the range people are helpful and courteous.

HOWEVER, as a white dude who owns some cool guns and can shoot somewhat OK, many people automatically think I think like them and some of the offhand shit people say when they think they have a receptive audience is pretty terrible. My CCW renewal is always an election year in October, and the banter that goes on in the classes and at the range is so incredibly cringe-inducing.

Yeah, this, although from the spam emails front sight sends out, I expected there to be a whole lot more Trumpism going on than was actually there on site. There was a remarkable lack of political rhetoric onsite the whole time we were there for four days.

I think they make the malfunction clearing overly complicated for time which prevents a lot of otherwise good shooters from being able to advance to the next level of class. My dad has gone maybe 5 or six times and hasn’t gotten his distinguished graduate yet because of the malfs.

Well, these are defensive shooting courses, so malfunction clearing is pretty important in that context, and instead of the usual tap, rack, flip, shoot procedure, it's tap' rack, flip, assess before shooting again, which makes sense because the situation may have changed while clearing the weapon.

That said, our last class here was two years ago, and the training, at least as far as the private training goes, was head and shoulders better than the last time we went, they have changed the curriculum (as well as the instructor mentality), so we had fun as well as learning new stuff/reinforcing prior training, with no "drill instructor" BS like you see elsewhere. Of course, it wasn't one of their "20 people per class" courses, so I can't speak to negligent discharges other than to say we had none in our course but we're not n00bs. They also let us run their "home invasion" training scenario which was interesting, it's a room clearing scenario with good guy and bad guy pop up targets.

All in all, I feel it was a worthwhile investment of our time even though it was our 4th time there.

Take it to the Kitchen Sink, I'd like to see some example of your claims.

Gun nuts are some of the worst people on the planet.

I was thankfully banned from the general forum years ago without warning. I assume it was because I was calling out blatant racists and misbehaving cops. Now I don't have to worry about those troglodytes raising my blood pressure. Now I just use the site for legal info, the hunting forum, and CCW info.

If you really want to make your skin crawl, check out the faith forum over there.

Yep, they're usually pretty normal in person.

Get them online and you see crap like this:
I don’t understand. So it looks like Justices Alito and Thomas dissented. But Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett all voted against President Trump. Don’t they have any sense of loyalty? Can those three be trusted on 2nd Amendment issues? Have they already been corrupted? Or were they already corrupt?

So sure that the judges trump appointed should rule based on "loyalty" rather than the Constitution they are sworn to uphold. :rolleyes

And his sig is "Standing by", so you know where he stands, at least online. :laughing

I think the general consensus is that people become monsters when they hide behind an anonymized persona, due to a lack of consequence for acting out their true beliefs. E.g. the KKK hiding behind hoods.

Motorcycle folks are the rare exception. Everyone seems to be pretty chill online and in person. :thumbup

Most of the gun guys I hang out with at competition and the range are pretty cool guys and easy to get along with. Now some of the gun forums I am on those guys can be very from my cold dead hand and if they come to my house to take my guns the bodies are going to hit the floor. Not sure how much of that is keyboard commando talk or if they really are that willing to die for their rights.

Black CX, for an optics recommendation you would want to know what kind of scenario you are using it for for example:

my 6.8 SPC AR I use for hunting I have a 2-10x optic on it as I shoot in mostly close-in wooded land and anything more doesn't allow for close-in shots and I don't have clear lanes over say 300yds.

My 5.56 rifle I went with a 1-6x because I am looking at man-sized targets and just need to get on target and maybe do close work not real precision shooting.

My AR-10 308 build is going to be for longer ranges so that is going to have a higher mag scope but haven't decided on an optic yet.

My AR9 uses a red dot for right now but might switch to a 1-4x or 6x in the future but not sure I am going to stretch it out so may stay with a red dot for PCC comps.

my 300BO is probably getting a 1-6x because it will be for close in and maybe some feral hog work but also just for grins using subs and suppressor.

I just got my M&P C.O.R.E ported slide and barrel in and will take a picture to share with my militia brothers. Can't wait to try it out. I bought a 3MOA Venom for my Canik TP9SFx but am thinking I may put it on the M&P for now and get another one for the Canik after seeing how well I like shooting with red dots on the pistol.

Just bought a Kimber K6S DASA 3" revolver last Friday. Our local gun shop had four on the shelf so I snagged one right after learning of a nice year end bonus. I plan to use this as a range gun for target/fun. Even though it is .357 Magnum I have no plans to shoot magnums in it. Since I reload, I will load some .357 brass to .38 Special or .38 Special +P (I don't like to shoot .38 Special in .357 Magnum revolvers because of the crud buildup with the shorter brass).

I pick it up on the 21st.

Ammo shortage my ass. Finally produced some shootable ammo from my once fired Prvi Partisan brass. Lots of failures to gauge.

Nothing like accurate bullets for an old, inaccurate battle rifle.
