Backpacking? Man seeking ????

I love backpacking, especially at this time of year. My favorite place is Henry Coe. My Wife LOVES to hike, so I bought her all of the expensive backpacking gear, but she just does not like doing the overnight thing? :wtf She loves car camping,,,,???? I'm trying to find a buddy to go backpacking with.

So, this is sorta like a backpacking personals ad;

55 y/o male, I am not in great shape. I walk slowly and take frequent (pee) breaks. I can hike up to 10 miles/day while carrying a 50 lb pack. I am learning to go lighter- I recently purchased a 2.5 lb tent and a 1 lb stove. I like to be at the trail head at 1st light. I normally hike to a lake and stay put. My last trip was to a lake in Coe park (approx. 6 miles/way). My #1 goal is to fish and drink single malt scotch. I believe in everyone bringing their own gear. I've been on too many trips where 1 stove/water filter/etc failed, so it's nice to have a backup.

I hate the heat, and prefer to go in cooler weather.

Oh, there will no tent sharing, unless your name is Selma Hayek!!

I do a *lot* of combined backpacking & flyfishing with my dad in western NC. In the many many years or so I've had a pack on my shoulders (I'm in my 30s, and we started doing this when I was 10 years old or so), finding a way to make a lighter pack has been crucial to having a successful trip, especially as people age. Light weight pays dividends; when you are carrying all of the extra flyfishing gear and are hiking in some pretty remote & rugged terrain, every little bit helps.. Anything a few hours off the beaten path has resulted in some great fishing.

Hope you find what you're looking for! Have made some great memories while walking & fishing probably a few hundred miles of water with my dad over the last 25 years.

Nothing like waking up to the sound of bacon cooking on a wood fire while in a tent after a cold night. My dad was always the early riser.

I have too many obligations to go camping with you, good luck finding a camping partner, I know I'd enjoy the walking and conversations with you if I could go.

Kestral-

Those are incredible photos!!! I've caught some amazing trout in the Sierras. The fish are so beautiful, they look like they were painted.

Climber-

Maybe one day in the future!!!

Melissa-

I purposely left it open. I don't want to appear to be sexist. Woman love backpacking too.

I enjoy all 3 levels of camping, Car Camping, easy camping (campgrounds) and real camping (carry everything in and out).

You had me at trail head. :teeth

Actually sounds like fun, and hoping your honest description finds you a hiking buddy. Boy can I relate to the slow and frequent pee breaks... aging is for reals.

Conflicting filters. The guy that wants to hike at first light, isn't the guy that wants to camp in one spot and fish/drink, and the guy that wants to stay in one spot and fish/drink, isn't the guy that wants to hike at first light.

I have some friends that aren't high maintenance who need some serious convincing to sleep outside even for one night in a camp ground with toilets.

If you didn't do it as a kid, it'd be hard to really know what to do.

By the time I was 14 I had spent over a year of my life in a tent, so camping is/was second nature to me. For others, like my wife, it's a hardship not worth the effort.
