Woodschick, thank you for your response. And how did you know I take my ATlas in the bathroom with me?..lol I have poured over it but obviously I am new to the areas of riding south of me. Thank you for the pics though, they helped a lot.

Ha-ha!! Busted! Hey, sometimes it's the only place I sit still all day :laughing

+1

Scribbles on a map don't mean much, but photos tell a story.

BTW, in this pic of the short, rugged climb where the bike is stopped at the bottom, contemplating the line...

Is that a nasty step up in the middle or just some rugged rock? The former would make it a bit tricky of a hill climb and the latter would make it something I could probably do... :)

One thing I hate about pictures and video. They flatten things out. Those ruts don't look as deep. That step up looks minimal, the steepness of that descent or climb looks nearly flat.

It was a little bit of a step-up but nothing major...if one is on knobbies. It was a little slick there, especially on the right, and you can see the tracks on the right that we made on the way down. If I'd been on my dirtbike I wouldn't have even noticed it. We kinda thought maybe we shouldn't go down it, especially since rain was on the way, but it was early in the day so we figured what the hell :ride And yeah, cameras do funny stuff to terrain. Here's a photo that shows the terrain a little better...

Did you guys just ride down there or did you trailer? Those tires don't look very knobby!

Great pix as always!

Hey, Jenn!! What's goin' on, Chica? We trailered the bikes down and camped on the Plain in the Lux-O-Palace and then did day rides. It's the only way to fly. Droning along on the highway for hours on end in Friday commute traffic just doesn't do it for me. And yeah, the tires were very unknobby :laughing They worked fine in everything, though...a really good compromise as long as it doesn't get too muddy.

Finally got around to some bike on bike action this weekend:

I'd really like to figure out a better setup to just toss the mountain bike on the back and take off. It's pretty cool to go for a nice 1/2 hour moto ride, then ride the bike on the trails for an hour or two, and cap it off with the moto ride home.

Dude!! You need to go out to the Lost Coast and ride the Paradise Royale stuff just north of Shelter Cove!

Hey, Duke! My CA Benchmark has a pub date of 2005. I don't know what the difference is but with the way things change here in CA in regards to access I would probably go for the most current version possible. My NV Benchmark has a pub date of 2003 but it is extremely accurate.

The trail map photos were laminated. They were attached to signs at the OHV areas :laughing You can see the Ballinger Canyon sign in the 5th photo above, and this is what the Pozo/La Panza one looked like...

Thanks WoodsChick, I'll be picking up one of those Benchmarks for sure :thumbup

Hey Zak, Saw your post about taking your bike on your moto. I used to know a guy who mounted some Yakima or Thule bike racks on the back of his GS and the bike sat upright in the fork tangs just like they sit on the roof or in the bed of trucks. Just need to bolt those fork mounts onto the back of your bike somewhere. He used to get all kinds of looks from everyone.
I'll try to find a picture of it and post it up here later.

Ok here it is :) http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131858

I need to decide if I'm going to go riding and camping this weekend, and where. Anybody been riding around the Mendocino this last week or so? Are all the passes snowed in, are the creeks too high to cross, or can I go over goat mt?

I'm tossing around other ideas too. . . . I'd love to visit Carrizo right now, but it's a bit too far for the 640 unless I put it in a truck, and I hate to do that just for one bike. Maybe I'll take the 950 down and look at the purty flowers. . .

Carrizo would get my vote for bike camping this weekend, although I'll be riding the dirtbike at Stonyford :) The flowers were beautiful 2 weekends ago, and they were just barely getting started!

I would bet the complete and total balance of my checkbook that Goat Mt will not be passable due to snow. I'll let you know after this weekend, as one of my favorite trails at Stonyford is #4, the Goat Mt Trail.

Have fun wherever you go...and take lotsa pictures! :thumbup

Ok, I think you've convinced me. I'll let you do the Mendo recon, I'll go flower sniffing down south, and maybe I'll see you at lanesplitters to hear about snow levels. :thumbup
