It's the extent that it can drop from being good that sets it apart.

How fast did it drop from $19k to $8k last time?

So you're saying bitcoin is extremely volatile? I thought that was a given. Lump it into that group of investments and treat accordingly.

And where are we now. If you bought the last "top", you would be up 2.5X. All investments are a risk. I just happen to think cash is a depreciating asset that will eventually go to zero against bitcoin. Everything I bought over the last few years has increased my wealth way more than any other thing I could have put that money into.
It looks good now, but your continued 'profit' depends on more people dumping money into it.

Very early investor's are doing extremely well, each successive person to hop in gets a diminished return. it still shares the characteristics of a pyramid scheme. People already bought in, will of course, encourage others to jump in because they have a vested interest to add others.

I'm not going to debate with you. It's clear you don't know what you are talking about. Good luck with your investments.

He doesn't? It's pyramid or Ponzi scheme to me. Just because it is pitched everyday, all day long, to everyone who will listen doesn't make it a bell-weather. What does it represent? Who determines the price?

It boggles my mind that people would rather have two guys in a lounge chair in the Bahamas determining bitcoin price because "fiat" currencies are bad. At least with the dollar, there is a damn treasury. With gold, there is damn gold. Bitcoin reminds me of chain letters.

An ETF just came out for BTC. Say what? An ETF for one item? Nope no weird frothy b.s. at all. :rofl

As has been said, CA has no state tax advantage, so I went with Vanguard (NV). Their fund choices are limited but there is an aggressive large growth fund. I'm not a fan of age-based 529 unless you're a set it and forget it type and starting when your kids are super young. You can miss out on a lot of growth in the later years (and loss as well), so as usual, your risk tolerance is something weigh greatly as you're working with a known time horizon.

+1 on Vanguard.

Non age based funds you can choose

Age based options

I had T Rowe Price 529 for some time. I think it was Alaska College Savings pan https://www.troweprice.com/personal-investing/products-and-services/college-savings-plans.html

I don't know bitcoins like you do.

But I have seen numerous scams, numerous pyramid schemes and I also know human nature.

You seem to think that bitcoin will do nothing but go up and only stupid people aren't hopping on the bitcoin bandwagon.

Back in the late 20's, last century, a whole bunch of people bought into the fiction that the stock market was always going to go up and everybody was going to get rich.

As I said, it's all good until it's not.

i think another thing from last century was civil disagreement. it's almost as if no one can disagree anymore without slamming the door behind them on the way out. you guys don't have to agree, everyone's had a couple of wins and losses.

i bought some 3 and 5 month options this morning along with a few 70$ LIT ETF 10-month ones. will likely sell them all on a rebound if it happens in the near term or buy into it if things keep showing red.

Isn't there a Bitcoin thread somewhere?

Sorry, dude. I haven't posted here in about a year. Didn't realize there was a specific Bitcoin scam thread. It's down 15% today. I will post it in that thread. :laughing

Anyone think that the $TSLA run is finally ending? I think it's worth, maybe $180. There is ZERO rational for this stock. Tesla comes in almost last in JD Power quality. There is going to be plenty of competition. Selling at 1200 times earnings seems rather silly.

It's up about 7x since Musk himself said it was too high, back in April.

I think their investment in bitcoin is more telling than others might believe.

Nope, it's only beginning.

Tesla came into one of the most established industries, starting in California, and is outperforming the competition or lack thereof. I don't see anyone else that's close. You have to look past the cars and realize its more of a revolution. The stock price is high because people know they are the category leaders and continue to innovate.

I'd agree, but Musk is Tesla, that's his move, and he is not, despite his success, a financial guy that has a track record. He's a clever and very smart man who managed to manipulate government subsidy process to make himself a billionaire. He's not an economist or a financial genius.

Elon Musk is not shy about taking risks. When Tesla was founded, a electric sports car sounded really stupid. The original 2 founders were turned down by the money people many times, so they when to the guy with a rocket start up. A guy like that would be crazy enough to invest in a electric car company.

I'm not a big fan of Bitcoin myself right now.
