Ya'll know the vaccine is free in the US right? Administrators are allowed to charge to inject people but the vaccine is being paid for by federal tax dollars. So if you pay income taxes you are subsidizing the vaccine however small a fraction of the cost it would be. So not sure why one would pay for it unless to jump the line.

Would I pay a nominal fee for a COVID vaccine? Yes!

Am I excited to see the COVID vaccine become scarcity race to the highest bidder? Fuckity-Fuck No.

High complexity, but like housing, if you can't afford it, you should be pushed out, right? It's limited...

No, it isn't really the same. Everyone gets the vaccine. It is more like getting a Flash Pass at 6 Flags.

get it while it's easy
interesting question, but i suppose it’s more along the lines of what it’s worth to you.

i expect to pay little to nothing when my order in the queue comes. no hurry.

what it’s worth to me, and what i’m willing to pay - pretty much zero. i’m totally fine with abstinence from society. am enjoying it actually. my immediate future plans include burrowing deeper into the hermit life. it comes with an AWESOME view. ;)

No, everyone doesn't get the vaccine, if we're talking about paying to get it now vs. waiting 6 months or more, and while waiting one might die of COVID, because many more will die from it who are not yet infected. Dying of a 6 Flags line is not really a thing of concern.

I had a rich friend that thought he should be able to pay at the ER to be treated before all the little people already there, regardless if they were bleeding out and needed immediate life saving care. His twisted ankle was more important.

:laughing Nonsense, there is no, "this guy is bleeding out from COVID, but this guy has a twisted ankle," parallel. It's a false equivalency.

Everyone is equally at risk. The distribution laws say that first responders have to be given the stuff first, because they are more at risk due to their jobs. Makes sense. The rest of the schlubs have almost no risk as long as you socialize with no one, stay in your house, and use the mask+distance protocol when doing essential tasks like getting groceries.

i.e. when it gets to be regular folks time for the shot, it is all the same. Everyone has the same risk, everyone just has to live a miserable lifestyle until they get the shot. No reason not to make a fastpass available. :dunno

Everyone is equally at risk, except for those over there... Risk of what? Exposure and exposing, yes. Death, not necessarily.

Since the supply is limited, selling one to someone who does not need it has life/death consequences to the rest of society.

And if there was just one and you had to choose Bo vs someone who surely would not survive an infection, or some millionaire willing to pay thousands...

I voted for $500 or less. I would prefer it to be free, but I also want free beer and single malt too, and you see how well that's going............

It's moot to me. I live alone and it's not really a big deal to me. I'd rather see OPD get the shot first. They still have no access.

We need as many people as humanly possible to be vaccinated for this plague to be under control. If we make it pay to play, that limits access and fucks the whole process.

That's ridiculous. Every first responder and medical professional should have been first in line for it.

This is Oakland. Half the populace here is like you and believes that the police are foes, the enemy, and deserve the worst.

FD and EMT's get it here.

Somewhere I've seen a Phiser vaccine price tag of $20 per dose. The way it was written, I believe that is cost from the mfg.
No other confirmation on cost in this thread, just speculation.
So, yea, an unfounded rumor @ $20. and medicare, I'm in.

I'd pay up to $500 to have one of the highest risk people get it and another $500 for myself--and I'm not asking for a higher priority in line for that. Medical professionals should decide where I'm at to get it. My only concern would be that I wouldn't want it to go to obscene profits for the drug companies. They should get to make a profit, but upper echelon folks in those companies shouldn't be raking it in off of this directly. I'm also concerned about how the poorer countries are going to get vaccinated. It's all grand n dandy that we here in the US can generally afford this, but this is a global issue. Seems like richer countries should subsidize poorer ones some.

That's not happening. Pfizer is not making obscene profits at all. They and most of the other companies held the price down.

You do realize that they could sell it for $100 a dose, right?

Nope, I wouldn't pay. We're on day 3 (final day) of pfizer's vaccines being given out for "free" at work. Still deciding if I want to or not. Leaning more on not. I think I'll wait until it's available for my teenager before I do it if I do. Id' like to get antibody tested first though.
