Yuasa Battery

The FZ6 is due for a new battery and I was looking at this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003CKFP5K However the 1,2&3 star reviews all complain of short lifespan or basically DOA. That nearly 30% of the reviews. Typically 10% is my threshold for negative reviews (1 star). I thought Yuasa had a good rep? Since Azone is the seller I'm not sure I have much to risk other than long term dud. There's a cheapie in there now from PO. https://www.amazon.com/SigmasTek-YT12B-BS-Motorcycle-Battery-Replacement/dp/B00JFVWTCC. Stator checks out fine btw.
What's the recommendation? I'm not going LIon and I have trouble paying boutique prices. Shorai at $130? Is it really worth 2x the cost, do I get double the performance?

ETA: Whoops meant to put this in "The Garage" Mod's pls move.

I've run those batteries in several motorcycles, not a thing wrong with them. I don't see how a battery where the user adds the acid could be a DOA. For the short life span complaints, it's probably people not charging them all the way before putting them on the moto. A slow and steady first charge is critical.

I had one Shorai, and it was very unreliable(this was in an '06 FZ6). If you get one, you have to get the largest size that will fit. I'd recommend their balance leads as well, as there is no internal balancing occurring during normal charging. They're not worth the extra cash IMO.

IMO nuthin at all wrong with Yuasa -

There are definitely shady amazon stores however, selling counterfeits or with bad support records. Sometimes that ends up being the review drag.

Take extra time to see that its the real product and a good seller.

My first lasted 10 years. OEM in my old SV. Replaced with a Yuasa. Sold a year later and was fine. My Tuono has one too. Been good to me for closing on 5 years now. I take good care of mine and they return the favor.

Thanks all for the input. I reached out to Yuasa earlier today to verify that Amazon is a valid distributor but since it actually Az selling it and not a 3rd party I feel pretty good about it. Yuasa states that all warranty is handled by the distrib and not them but having read the instructions and charging prior to use I don't see why it wouldn't last. Thanks! It's been added to the cart.

I have two Shorai batteries, one in gsxr1000, and one is in Husky 610 both are quite old 2012 or so, and not a thing is wrong with them.... they repeatedly keep staring my bikes after months of inattention... Love them. Worth the money. Don't have battery tenders anymore :)

You're lucky. Mine would discharge from full in about 6-7 days. Part of the problem was this was back when they were recommending under-sized batteries. I tried to get them to warranty it, but they wouldn't. Since then I've stuck with Yuasa. A Yuasa in the same bike lasted seven years, amd was still good when I sold the FZ6.

I would like to try Antigravity batteries, but those cost a small fortune, more than I care to spend on a battery.

Yuasa is used by many motorcycles manufactures as their OEM battery. My favorite battery are Odyssey Batteries btw =P

I've used Amazon several times (5?) over the past 6 years to buy Yuasa batteries. Only once was it from a third party, Chaparral IIRC. All others were directly filled by Amazon. Never once did I have an issue.

Or you can just go to another online retailer and buy from there instead of Amazon. You are not going to get bogus products from RMATV Motosport bikebandit partzilla and so forth.

That's true, it looks like Chapparal has comparable pricing to Azon. Here's the answer from Yuasa about Amazon:
"Amazon is not an authorized dealer and the warranty is held through the dealer and the dealer's distributor handles all warranty claims."

You can buy a battery from CycleGear with a lifetime guarantee. If the bike is a long term keeper I'd go with that.
I put 3 batteries in my Futura for the price of 1.

My two cents as someone who mainly rides around town and at the track: Yuasa isn't worth the price premium. If I was going on long road trips, a brand name battery may be worth the price premium.

I put a Yuasa into my track bike and used a battery tender, and it still ended up failing a little over a year later.

I replaced it with a Weize for 1/3 the price and haven't had any issues yet. I could replace it twice and still come out alright.

I put a cheaper battery in my 2008 KTM 990 Adventure and it was failing within six months. Because I had bought it from a local shop, they replaced it for free under warranty. Six months later I was having issues with it again. I purchased a Yuasa AGM battery and had no more battery issues. It was good for at least two years when I sold the bike.

When I needed a new battery for my XR650L, I didn't even consider anything else. It has a Yuasa AGM battery in it and the battery has been totally reliable.

I don't want to deal with battery problems and that's why I'm willing to pay extra for Yuasa. I know I can trust them.

Does it matter what / how I charge it after I add the juice? It's a 10 a/hr battery. I can do 2a for 5hr, 4a for 2.5hr or 15a for 40 min. Does it matter? My car charger will do 2a or 15a can I use that or should I use a Battery Tender on 2 or 4 amp? I'm thinking that hitting it w/ 15a probably isn't a good idea...

Slow and steady in the first charge. 2 or 4a would be fine. I'd do 4, as 2 would likely take many hours to charge. First charge is the most important, so let it charge all the way.
