YouTube is hurting and they're punishing their base.
looks like this is their way to try and make money since their add revenue is drying up. Fuck them and their garbage monetization system.
I won't buy it and I certainly won't miss it.
What I will miss are the quality content creators that are going to leave the platform
The ad revenue issue is separate from this, but yea, they are demonetizing so many videos now that it is getting ridiculous. Algorithm seems to have gone berserk and if they don't reverse direction soon I'm sure other businesses will be happy to take their content creators and, thus, any profit they were making. Funny thing is, it's bad for everyone involved. Youtube isn't showing as many ads but still is paying to host videos, as well as losing content creators. Advertisers are losing out on an increasingly large market that is going toward a valuable and hard to reach demographic, and content creators are getting royally screwed by the whole situation.
I don't think its a play to get rid of their old format. I think it is geared towards offering a subscription based service that offers spots and premium channels along the lines of cable. Everything is going to streaming. I haven't had cable since and 2006 everything except some sports is available online.
Line up right now doesn't look all that interesting to me but maybe it will get better with more popularity.
