Youth Street Helmets

I would like to plop my 12 or 9 year old on the back of the ST4S for a cruise up the coast every now and then. Aside from proper fit of course, what should I look for certification wise for a youth helmet? I remember way back there was some controversy about safety ratings for younger riders. Has that been sorted? Is there different testing for smaller heads? Is shell stiffness and "G's" to the head been addressed for younger riders? I plan to buy new lids soon so I'm looking for some input.

Still only DOT for youth helmets I'm afraid, and I'm not aware of any additional testing or innovation beyond that. Everything I've seen with a youth full-face has been pretty bare bones.

Rats. Thank you. I'm looking at something light and polycarbonate like this.

While the youth helmets are lightweight, in my findings they're ABS shells. If I had to guess, I think the reasoning is just that kids grow too much and parents typically aren't willing to invest in something that will be replaced a year from now. Even on the motocross side, Bell and 6D are just now offering premium youth helmets.

There's nothing specific about youth helmets in terms of the safety standards. Nothing wrong with an ABS shell either.
