Your splitting is bad and you should feel bad.

Just wanted to share a couple of clips from my commute home tonight. Nothing major, mostly just a PSA to any new splitters on what, IMO, not to do.

First guy should be obvious. After I moved over for him he grabbed about three handfuls of throttle. His delta was pretty ridiculous. It's hard to see another splitter coming up behind at night with a sea of lights behind you but this guy came up fast enough that I saw him pretty easily. Whoever you are, dude...slow down. Didn't even have time to wave. :(

On the other end of the spectrum is the second guy. Held me up pretty good for a while. I was actually going to just chill behind him and just deal with a slightly slower than usual split....when he randomly fires up his hazards and blinds me with them. :wtf

So I said to hell with that, went around in 2/3. I was about to make my way back over when I see a caravan of also slow-going Harleys that would have likely also clogged me up had ol' Flashy McSlowpants ever let me by. So I stuck to 2/3 for a bit longer before heading back to 1/2 and was on my merry way.

Take-aways:

Don't be the first guy.
Being the second guy isn't as bad, but watch your 6 for faster splitters.
For the love of God stay away from the hazard lights. That's not even legal. I wonder if Honda didn't put them on Shadows so we wouldn't be tempted to use them like that.

Any rider who makes a 5 foot wide pass is an asshole.

Besides being incredibly disrespectful to fellow riders, what happens if you pass another rider who is as stupid as you are? If he decides to merge without looking or signaling, or even speed up randomly, both riders will go down.

As for the second guy, I don't believe in hazards and this is why.

Well, you certainly do know how to push the on button on your video camera.

You know, I see other guys post videos like this of their commutes and splitting and they don't get an ounce of shit for it. I wasn't complaining, I didn't get mad so I really don't see the need for these kinds of responses.

Hey it sounds like you are constantly chopping your throttle. Is that the case and if so why?

I'm not sure why it sounds like that. Could be due to the quality of the built-in mic on the camera (was using my backup that doesn't have an external mic) A few times I was purposely making some extra noise to get the guy's attention but that's it.

Are you referring to me or the first guy? First guy flew by me at Warp 9 but aside from being really unsafe I didn't see it as being an asshole.

It's not my fault...
Was your choppy throttle due to you pulling in the clutch a lot and just coasting through?

Spartan925

Possibly. I'm not sure what qualifies as choppy throttle but especially with this guy ahead of me not keeping a consistent speed I had to modulate my speed a lot and I tend to use clutch and engine braking to do so. I also removes the resonators from my pipes so it doesn't sound quite as smooth as stock.

hipster on cbr300 with speed racer style helmet was honking at everyone not making room for him

I passed him, honked and shook my finger at him. he stopped honking

It's guys like that who make people not want to give us room at all. Besides, how much room does a CBR300 even need?

I don't make a habit of it, in fact I rarely if ever do. But what other choice does one have if they're behind a slower splitter who won't move over *and* is blinding you with their hazards?

The first guy. Maybe he wasn't as close as it seemed. It looked like he was the other lane. But by making a fast pass, he was asking for trouble.

I don't think a close pass is a problem if the other rider knows you are coming.

Yeah, I was well aware that he was going to pass and his proximity wasn't so much the issue, it was the speed. Couldn't believe how he just disappeared like that.

I don't get splitting with hazards on although I see a lot of riders doing it. Most bikes you can't see the hazards on the front of the bike so it doesn't help when splitting. They are more visible on the rear of bikes but what's the point to run them when the only time the cages see them is when you're already past them? :ride

OP.
It seems each of your threads (and related commentary) are the video equivalent of a can of gas and a match.
I am sincerely confused as to why you bring this on yourself.
There is a distinct pattern here.
