I know... I know... the search function... I tried.
So I am still wearing a 12 year old VelocityGear "Lowest Cost Level 2 (verifiable) Armor in the World" Back Protector, and feel like it might be time for an upgrade. At this point, the straps are stretched out, my back runs hot due to the lack of ventilation, and I feel like armor has probably improved a good bit.
Usage will be track only. I still have an old school mentality, and feel like a hard panel protector would be great for freak accidents where 1) objects like footpegs jamming into me and 2) preventing hyperextension of the spine.
Are there any multi-impact hard panel protectors with decent lateral flexibility? I was looking at the Dainese Manis and Pro-Speed, but they both seem to be single impact due to their internal materials. Dainese doesn't advertise them as such, but an aluminum honeycomb doesn't seem like it can be reused if inelastically deformed by impact. The Knox Aegis still seems to be out there, but it looks like an older design at this point and I can't tell from online reviews about its side to side lateral flexibility.
I'm also potentially open to a soft protector... I've considered the T-Pro Sub 4 before, and the Dainese Pro-Armor looks interesting. I like the way the Pro-Armor looks, and it seems like it would fix my back ventilation issue, but I'm still iffy on the hard object penetration.
So what products am I missing from the latest and greatest in armor? I know this hard and soft debate used to be a huge thing, and soft has seemingly won out. I do still remember years ago someone shoving a pen through an old TPro protector from Team Hard. :laughing
