Yelp - Blackmail/Scammy

Prior to this subject matter, has anyone noticed...

Bring up any Yelp review. The default sort of reviews is the "Yelp Sort". This sorts the reviews using Yelp's secret sauce (scammy) sorting order. Next click to sort by Newest First. Watch closely what happens. After 3 seconds it reverts back to the Yelp Sort.

Weird? Thoughts?

Yelp is a POS company. I've known about their strong arming of small businesses for quite a while now, and avoid their website like the plague.

Reviews seem to vaporize.

I called them on it a couple times, of course they denied it and were greatly offended.

I told them who am I to believe? You or my lying eyes?

Just lost 3 last week, scam time.

Because Yelp sort, sorts it so that if they pay yelp, the responses you see first are good, and if they don't they aren't.

well I actually tried it last night


at first it wasn't happening. but then , IT WAS . However, it was very very well noticeable, at least to an experienced user. AND there was very little wait before it started happening. I'm thinking this is some misplaced feature/something underbaked and they may/may not change it in the future. It felt very strange to me. ( Almost made the page unusable. Which would mean very noticeable. Why would they do that? )

Just deleted the app on my phone. It's also one of the most aggressive location trackers.

Talk about a good idea gone bad. If only people leaving reviews cared enough to boycott.

Yelp now uses grub hub to take online orders. They upcharge on every item purchased and so not tell the consumer. My last order was $1/item. Multiply that by a dozen items and it's a lot of money. Then they skim a few bucks from the establishment. They can easily make 15 off of a medium size order for doing nothing.


Oh, and if you notice a business has two numbers listed on Yelp, it's because grub hub routes calls to the business and then charges the business for routing the call. General info they charge less (or not at all) but if you say Yonge placing an order there's a charge to the company. They pass that charge on to you.


Fuck Yelp. Crooked ass shady practices.

I ordered DoorDash the other day. Got the "Your Dasher will be hear soon message."

Walked out just in time to see the clown drive off and Mark it as delivered. DoorDash put in a replacement order when I hit them with a "WTF?!?" on the online chat.

Wing Stop canceled the replacement order on their end.

If you own a business that (by default) exists and does well enough on Yelp without paying them, NEVER answer the phone when they call.
