Briar Bauman AMA Announcment The Mile and Half Mile Bike will be a Super Tenere based motor with full factory Yamaha support

ossville, TN – Babe DeMay Racing is proud to announce its race plans for the 2013 season. With support from Yamaha Motor Company and Memphis Shades Motorcycle Windshields and Fairings, the team will be putting on a full factory supported effort in the prestigious AMA Pro Grand National Championship.

Riding the team’s Yamaha motorcycles will be second year Expert Briar Bauman. Briar, who hails from Northern California, grew up as a prodigy, making a huge splash by joining the Pro Singles series halfway into the 2011 season, winning a main event, and quickly stepping up to the Expert level the following season; doing battle with the best riders in the world. “I’m really excited to join the team this year.” Says Briar, “I didn’t have a lot going on for the year and to get the call from Babe DeMay was awesome. He’s done so many great things in the sport and has won a lot of races. I can’t wait to ride for his team. I haven’t ridden Yamaha’s before, and it’s going to be very refreshing to start from a clean slate in Daytona.”

About his Daytona expectations, Briar had this to say, “Going into Daytona, on my end of things, I know I’m ready. I learned a lot there last year and I have been training very hard to physically be ready for the season. We will be doing a short test before Daytona to get me comfortable on the bike before the national, but I would like to see myself in the top 5 both nights, and improve from there through the season. I know that I am capable of that, but hey, it’s Daytona and as we’ve seen in the past, anything can happen.” Supporting the team will be Babe’s longtime mechanic, Clayton Shambaugh who has worked with countless top riders over the last 6 seasons. Clayton will be responsible for not only building the powerful Yamaha YZ450F singles equipment, but also the Yamaha Super Ténéré based twins equipment which will be debuted when the series moves on to the bigger ½ Mile and Mile ovals later in the series. Along with Yamaha Motor Company and Memphis Shades, Babe DeMay Racing would like to thank the following sponsors who have come on board to make the 2013 season possible:

(In alphabetical order) Barnett Clutches, Big Gun Exhausts, CJ signs, Cometic Gaskets, Comp Cams, CV4, Falicon Cranks, G2 Ergonomics, K&N Filters, Millennium Technologies, Motion Pro Cables and Tools, MSD Ignition, Saddlemen Seats and Luggage, Silkolene Lubricants, Wiseco Pistons, Works Connection and Xceldyne.

Briar Bauman would like to thank the following personal sponsors for their support during the 2013 season:

(In alphabetical order) Arai Helmets, DC10, Drew Massa, Eks Brand Goggles, Fly Racing, Gene and Gail Cummings, Rod Lake Racing, Russo Construction and Specialty Fabrications Incorporated.

Not as fast as I look.
I wonder why Yamaha decided to do this. Any ideas? Has interest picked-up in flat-track, R1, or are things still static?

technically speaking, there exists an opening, an opportunity

Yamaha may tune their Harley alternative within the new-age AMA Pro rules, which might create a twin that's competitive [& MUCH cheaper]

I guess they see some profit there. I suppose with all the Star machines and such, they are use to going after HD markets.

I believe there has been a community effort to bring Flat Tracking back to mainstream. There are more and more grass roots promoters, more races and riders. The influx of female riders that compete and win is growing just as fast. Shayna Texter is in the history books for winning knoxville in 2011, following that up with a win at Sacramento in 2012 and repeating her Knoxville win in 2012. Nicole Cheza is another very fast gal running HD's and the list goes on with up and coming female pros into the singles. Yamaha I believe jumped back because of the growth of the sport again, plus the success of Kawasaki, BMW and KTM

The Kawasaki is putting the beat down on the HD's #42 Bryan Smith dominated the 1/2 miles last year. Rumer has it Jake Johnson will be competing with a Kawasaki in the Half Miles this year as well switching to the HD for miles

Jake Johnson will be using the Kawi for half and miles from what I've heard. I know they've had a few built. Testing with them has gone well too I'm told.
