XR100 questions for next racing season

Well, a couple years ago I went to probably 8 or 10 practice days at the Stockton Motorplex with my XR100, tho due to various circumstances I've been unable to do so for some time. However, next year looks like I'll finally be able to race the thing. I'd like to keep it low budget.

Anyways, the bike is bone stock except for heavier BBR fork springs, a beefier shift lever, and slightly taller gearing (I think I went up one tooth in the front since I was revving the piss out of it in 5th gear well before I reached my braking point on the straight; I could probably go even taller). I don't really wanna spring over $400 for a new shock, so I plan on getting a heavier shock spring at least. The motor runs fine as-is, tho it's no fire-breather.

So, could I get away with leaving the motor bone stock or are most of the bikes on the grid well breathed upon? I just wanna have fun, but I don't want to be a rolling road block either. :D

Ok, on closer look I see there are no head or airbox mods, which I assume includes cam, so at least I know there won't be any twin cam trick stuff out there. I'll work on prep etc and hope to be out there next year.

I wouldn't worry about the Thumpers... shouldn't be a problem. I don't think there are really any up in this area anyways... just a few southern (scminigp) guys that you might see at the combined events like Buttonwillow.

I am looking for stock or supermoto wheels for a good price if you have any or looking to upgrade. I have 99 xr 100.

I just have my stockers, which I'll be keeping, sorry. Seems like decent XR100 wheels are in demand.

I had a guy interested in buying what will be a roller XR100 after I gut it for the engine for my NSR50 swap but since I lagged and haven't touched either bike in months now I'll probably have to part out the XR100 when the time comes. So if you guys can wait until spring of 2010, I'll have a bunch of stock XR100 parts that I will be able to let go for cheap. :D

I do have access to a free (for me only :D ) ATC200 carb. Would that make any diff on an otherwise stock engine?

How about a frame with pink slip???

Want to take the wheels and swinger along with it? :laughing

I'll let you know early next year when I have time to get myself back into the garage. Home ownership and upgrades to a house have killed my toy budget. :thumbdown

I've been reading conflicting info on aftermarket rev boxes... some say they work great, some say they don't do squat. So... what is it? Will you only need it if you do major engine work?

^ uhhh....you sure about that?

I'm pretty sure the guys that are consistently running at the front have done a whole lot more than that....jus sayin

Hey Ernie, how's the new 150R?

I have no dellusions of winning races with a near stock bike, just don't wanna be a rolling road block if everyone else has double the power or some shizzy.

Of course you should get out there man. I was just respoding to the guy who said that anyone could win races on a bike with susp and an pipe. I wish that were true.

My :2cents - Don't worry about your pace, the fast guys will always get around you and it's the overtaking riders responsibilty to make a safe pass, period. Just stay on line, be consistant, don't look over your shoulder and don't 'move over' for anyone.

And never let off the gas. :D First order of bidness is getting the wheels trued, new rubber and a stiffer shock spring.

Get Bridgestone BT45s - everyone else is on 'em, they're cheap, and they last. :thumbup

If you're on the peninsula, PaulyG can set you up with the truing.

We love racing...
I raced my first year on a bone stock bike and always got lapped. The next year I a Works shock, BBR fork springs, fork brace & 120 kit and started finishing in the top 3. Bridgestone BT45's are the best tire available. They stick great and last the whole season. I think you are on the right track in getting your bike set up. Come on out and we well be gland to help you figure out what you need to be a top finisher.

I can't wait to ride the 150R. I'm planning on going out to Sears Point on Nov. 22 to try it out. Hope to see you guy's there....
