They are amazing to see in the air.

Thankfully nobody was killed and hopefully the plane can be repaired.

"The plane attempted a landing in an open field and appeared to have struck an irrigation ditch. All three people on board sustained injuries, two of them were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office."

Glad everyone is okay!

Beautiful plane, hope they restore it.

Looks like one of the motors got ripped off, but otherwise the plane looks repairable.

looks totalled to me. I can't see how you'd have any confidence of it's airworthiness after having received that kind of damage.

As long as the data plate was not destroyed, it can be rebuilt. More has been done with less.

I have a guy I used to fly with who is a DPE out in Georgia for the FAA on the B-25 who has done more with less, on more than one occasion. They're currently in the process of restoring an A-26 that was a Vietnam survivor. Not many of them made it back. Guy's were pulling the wings off of them in combat, and those that did ended up fighting fires, mostly in Canada.

There used to be 3 or 4 A-26s at Shellville Airport about 20 years ago. I installed some avionics on one of them. I don't what happened to them. They were ex borate bombers.

My sisters ex father in law used to restore old WWII Airplanes. Most impressive to me was a Messerschmitt Me 163. Although I don't recall if it was airworthy. He worked for a museum who financed the restoration.

Was the ME-163 really ever truly airworthy? Even new they must’ve been incredibly sketchy to “fly”, if one truly flies something like that. More like hope it’s pointed in the right direction when it lights off. Desperate times called for desperate measures...🤷🏻‍♂️

I haven't seen that plane in over 20 years. Its coming back to me now what a death trap it was, yeah no way in the world anyone today would be allowed to try flying one of those.

It was an absolute death trap. Stories about simply killing the pilot on take off. Should rebuild something safe, like a Gee Bee...
