[edited].....It was an impressive weekend for Tommy seeing that the Kawi was giving up some much top speed on the straights. I thought he was fading in the 2nd race, but on the final lap he was right there behind Laverty and Melandri.

yeah - I wonder that same thing most every race:

Sykes gets pole, hangs for all/nearly all the race, despite being down on top HP & lacking straightaway speed

how does he do it....?

Marquez FTW
I did, I did! :laughing Could you believe that shit? I thought I was watching NASCAR there for a while. These guys just couldn't seem to get it together. That last one was just stupid; I have no idea what Antoneli was thinking there, he had no shot of making that corner!
With how fast he went in there, I wonder if he shouldn't be penalized for endangering his fellow racers. Someone could have easily been killed with that bullshit.
Even though I root for Sykes/Baz Team Green, if you shortcut a corner you shortcut the track. Should be one place at least??? :x

Oh, I totally agree. He should have re-entered the track behind Guintoli and then if he got back ahead of him by the finish line, that's fine. But to re-enter ahead of him after that isn't right. Anywhere else on a track, running off is very penalizing. But because there's tarmac there, there's the potential for there to be no real penalty at all. It's not like at the first chicane where they have the barriers that slow someone down, forcing them to lose time by overshooting the entry.

Bumping Sykes down 1 spot was reasonable. Reinstating him in 3rd is incorrect IMO.
It's tough being on everyone's ignore list.

I'm sorry, you're not on my ignore list, I just missed it. Was skimming through to see if anyone posted about it, and somehow didn't see your comment.

Getting pole and setting the race lap record are quite the mystery. The lad obviously has talent.

Sykes is right there. Frankly I think he is racing smarter than he was last year on a bike that is better. He is definitely working the tires better. Tom is going to be right there all year. As will Marco, as will Guinters, as will Eugene. That is what I love about this series!

The Fab Four with the occasional Davies appearance. It's shaping up to be a memorable season with a Laguna treat to make it even sweeter.

tommy still needs to WIN more. he has yet to really start putting together those wons and strings of wins you need to really be a champion. I like tommy and it would be great of he won but I would love to see him start putting those wins together

Just imagine if Honda decided to get serious about WSBK and put a ride under Johnny Rae. And the Suzuki's are coming. Cluzel is impressive and Leon is coming into his own. So much for my hope of Hopper coming back to Superbike. But I digress, this is just great stuff. And I am not ruling out the Panigale yet. This machine will make it's presence felt next year, maybe sooner. Superbike is a good show and I'm going to try very hard to get to Laguna to see them live.

This. Seems like he is getting pretty much everything the machine has to give, he is not one to make silly mistakes. So they just need to find a way to make the bike race as well as she qualifies. Sustained race pace. Yessir, that's the ticket! :laughing

To quote Johnny Rea: "How can somebody be that fast for one lap?"

They need to. Their fireblade is very long in the tooth now. Hell Kawi is wiping the floor with them and we know Johnny is a good rider. He won the 8 hours of Suzuka and did a fairly good showing in MotoGP all things considered. A solid bike under him would do him wonders. He's still mkaing that bike win and podium when it has no right to.

Apparently Francis Batta had a blowup with Ducati over the lack of development on the Panigale so far this season, had a meeting with Herr Gobmeier & as a result their agreement has been completely revised. Alstare is going to be allowed to do both engine and chassis work on the bikes, rather than simply race what the factory gives them.

There goes their synchronized mediocre results in both their GP and WSBK programs!

True that! Mr. Batta strikes me as a guy that is driven and wants no part of just being out there and doing well; he wants to WIN. He had to know that it was both a good oppurtunity and a calculated risk taking on the brand new Panigale at this level. I do not blame him for wanting to have more control over his own destiny, and if the factory aint givin the love then take control and move things forward yourself. Absolutely. Apparently The brass at DucAudi didn't argue too much, which I find unusual.

I think it would be hysterical if all of a sudden the Ducs in WSBK suddenly became extremely competitive while the GP bikes hovered in mediocrity - it would surely reveal what the true issue at Ducati is.

race two appealed,

http://www.motomatters.com/news/2013/05/12/wsbk_news_results_of_race_two_changed_af.html

The last lap of the second World Superbike was frought with controversy after an overtake followed by an off-track excursion. The results of third and fourth place in the race have subsequently been reversed, following an appeal.

Sylvain Guintoli was overtaken by Tom Sykes and pushed back to fourth place as Sykes chased second-place Marco Melandri. As Sykes approached Melandri at the Variante Della Roggia, he had to run off track to avoid the Italian's rear wheel. Upon rejoining the race, Sykes returned to his place ahead of Guintoli, causing the Frenchman to slow down, ending his run for the podium.

When Guintoli arrived at Parc Fermé, he thought that he would be assured of third place assuming that Sykes had broken the rules exiting in front of him. As Sykes was awarded third place, Aprilia appealed the result and were successful in getting the third and fourth places swapped. Sylvain Guintoli then tweeted a photograph of himself standing on a plastic box with 3 scrawled on the front, holding the third place trophy.

Guintoli's lead in the championship is now extended to 16 points from Eugene Laverty and Tom Sykes is a further 8 points behind.

Good for him, that was total BS!

I think a guy that runs off the track with a lot of paved run-off area, they should lose like ten places(at least)! Jeesh...if the run-off wasn't there it would be a crash. They're lucky they could still continue to race, even with a stiff penalty (to the back etc...). Without run-off it would likely be a crash and no continued race at all.

That was really bugging me during that race. That one Italian dude, Giugliano did a couple times and still finished fairly well. They need a more strict rule/penalty when it involve these nice paved run-offs. If it's dirt and they survive, then fine; no penalty. Just my opinion.
