As usual, I've gotten a few messages on how to get into the racing torrent communities. No harm, no foul, but I figure I'll post a little something here to inform people about general what-have-you's and what-nots about these torrent sites.
First and foremost, they should not be named openly in public forums.
They should not be named openly in public forums.
That was worth repeating, because that is the most important rule about these torrent communities. I'm a member of two different communities, and both cite that as the first and most important rule. Hence, I won't be mentioning the site names or URL in this post.
Now if you do happen to find out where these torrent sites are, it isn't usually that simple to join and create an account. There usually needs to be a requirement or criteria met to be able to join.
For example, on my primary torrent community, membership is by invite-only. An existing member with an invite code available to them needs to share that invite code to you, which you can then use to create your account. The member who gave you that invite code will then be able to see your participation level; this is important because your membership in this community is dictated by either your positive or negative participation, and it can affect the member who gave you the code. Existing members can expect to get more invite codes by way of donating to the site. So I suppose if you know anyone that has an active account, you could give them money to donate to the site, in exchange for an invite code for them to share with you. Just remember that it doesn't usually stop there; you can affect their membership by how positive or negative your participation is.
On another torrent community I'm a member of, there isn't an invite-code needed, rather they have a maximum number of members they allow. Once this max number is reached, new member sign-up is not available. The good news is that they typically have a number of users scheduled to be banned for negative participation or long-term inactivity, and once they have done the clean-up, then these slots open up for new membership. The bad news is that you don't know when that is, so the only thing you can do is keep trying to create an account until you're successful. Of course, since you don't know when the max membership is reached, who knows if their membership is capped at this time anyway (*hint* *hint*)...Also, the good thing about this particular community is that your membership activity will not affect anyone else's.
Hope this enlightens, somewhat.
