Taze away, Yana...
Woohoo! It's the fifth year of the free n00b days!

For those of you that don’t know; Z2 gives all its season pass holders two free track days every year that can only be given to a rider that has never ridden the track before. Three of us started having a fun filled track events with our passes in 2014. Bassem, Michael 'Buford' and myself with the generosity of ZoomZoom trackdays (David 'dbenj') offer a completely free* trackday for riders who have never been to the track.

We have done 6 free noob days so far giving away 36 track days to 36 individual riders, and 130 pounds of pulled pork! :laughing
2018
2017
2016 2016 Part two
2015
2014

We're doing this on the 13th of July at Thunderhill raceway on the East track. link. We will be selecting 6 new-to-the-track riders.

Here is what you get if you win:

1) One full track day with z2 at Thunderhill Raceway on Saturday July 13th.

2) We'll provide the pit setup. We will have food (something smoked and super tasty), drinks, shade, tools, chairs, funny friends, and a willingness to talk you through some of the issues that arise during your day. Your family members are also welcome to come support you.

3) You will have one-on-one instruction from the amazing Z2 staff while you are on track.

4) You will have 30 minute classes all day after your C group session with Barf’s very own SonoraMike, and KazMan. They will teach you sight lines, turn-in points, breaking markers, answer all your silly questions with a smile, teach you riding position, and become one of the best mentors one could ask for at the track.

5) You will find a new power, and comfort in riding on the street, and on the track that you never knew existed. You will also learn where you are weak, and need improvement. To me this is one of the greatest powers a rider can have.

What you will need in order to qualify to win this pass:

1) A very good understanding of how to operate your motorcycle. This is not an MSC, this is a track day.

2) You have a motorcycle that can pass z2's tech requirements. Requirements here

3) You have all of the necessary safety gear.** Requirements here.

4) You can never have attended a track day. You must be a complete track day n00b. You can never have ridden the track. The only exception to this rule would be an attendee of Road Rider 2.0 because sight laps at lunch do not qualify as attending a track day.

5) You must be able to get all of your gear, and bike to Thunderhill on Saturday the 13th of July. (we might be able to work out a shared transport).

If you fit all these requirements, and you have always wanted to attend a track day, but never pulled the trigger, please tell us why you should win in 250 words or less in the comments below (totally kidding... a little blurb would be awesome). All qualified applicants will be drawn from a hat for fairness.

Hopefully the winners from the last few n00b days can join us as well for a bit of a reunion because that’s one of my favorite parts!

You have until June 15th to enter so everyone Plenty of time to prep bikes, rides, and gear. Tell your friends, share this post on FB, get your buddies to the track! You do have to be a member of BARF to be a part of this awesome event, but there is no limitation on how long you have been a member. If you sign up today, you're allowed to toss your hat in this ring. :thumbup

* You will need to pay for transportation to the track, and fuel for your bike.
** we all have some extra equipment should you find yourself lacking in something.

Let the games begin!!!!

I was lucky enough to join the n00b day last year. this is a chance of a lifetime for any enthusiast. Z2 does an incredible job at giving you all the info you need and jeremy and bassem are incredible hosts. if you land a spot I highly suggest purchasing the sunday ticket as well. the jump from day 1 to day 2 in skill level is huge.

after this event last year I knew I was hooked and bought a season pass.

I'll definitely be there.

jeremy and bassem let me know if I can help you guys out in any way.

That right there is what scares me the most about trying out a track day. As if this hobby isn't enough of a money pit.

Anyway, I've always been interested in attending one and am considering doing the Road Rider 2.0 class as well. This seems like something that would be a great way to finally pull the trigger.

I've had my M license for over 15 years, but only started riding about 2 years ago, in which time I've logged about 20k miles (mostly commuting) on my R3.

I hope to see you all out there!

I've done track days before so I'm out but would be interested in hanging out and learning from instructors. Is that possible with a normal ticket purchase?

Absolutely! The n00b pit and all aspects (including lunch) are available to anyone that wants to join in the fun. n00bs, friends, family, and regular track riders. thays what makes the n00b weekends so special. Last year we had over 40 people attend, help, or be involved. Everyone is welcome.

Aaaand I went down today. Gonna try my hardest to get my bike back up and running asap.

Headlight is pushed up against my right fork. Anyone know some good mechanics or shops to get this sorted out? Bike still runs, just cant turn bars to the left.

Oscar at Racepace Motorsports is a good guy, he works on my bike when I don't have the mechanical know how. https://www.yelp.com/biz/race-pace-motorsports-san-jose

Edit - Now is a great time to fit up track bodywork :teeth

It warms my heart that this is still going strong. As a past beneficiary of this kindness, I can’t say enough about this opportunity and the people who make it all possible

One of these days. I have a commitment on July 13 and leaving for Europe the week after. Would a Multistrada work for this? I have raced Flattrack and Enduros. Never have been on a paved road course. Maybe next year.

Ok big J.

I've always wanted to do one of these, first thought was with my 690 on the super moto set of wheels I have. Now that I have a 990 Baja, my interest is renewed.

I've been riding for some time, mostly off road but the last 8 years have been dual sport. Spent quite a few days at THill on the track with cars but never a moto. Based on this experience and how much it taught me car control I really believe that I'd learn tons doing one of these noob days on the moto. I've seldom pushed it on the street as track time in the car taught me to learn in a controlled, safe environment with instructors and safety personnel nearby. Trying to catch you on 70 was a lesson in futility and fear!

One thing I don't have is appropriate safety gear sans the helmet, gloves and boots. If chosen, I'll start looking in the used gear section for something that would work.
I'm wondering how folks would feel with me wrangling the adventure bike around the track?
