When I quit road racing in '89 I bought my Harley the following year.
I thought this is a good way to enjoy the ride and not be all crazy on the street. I was right and I truly enjoyed the cruise. I went up to Redwood City and brought cash money to buy my '91 Softail Custom..they had it on the floor. After a quick bargaining session I walk out to a new bike with a :teeth on my face. The guys explained the routine and I took off..too return in 5 minutes..."there is something wrong with the brakes."
The guy jumped on the bike and came back in 2 minutes .."there fine"
"What..?" He then asked what did you ride before ..etc..I told him Gxxr 750, Suzuki Cup,AFM, AMA etc.. He laughed and explained the technological difference in the brakes ,weight factor, etc.. I rode home a little worried..
About 3 months after owning the bike I felt that, You know what..I can do better. I went a got a fully chromed, 4 piston, performance machine road race caliper and planted it on the front!!!
THE BEST IMPROVEMNET EVER!!!!!! 2 Fingers instead of all four and a worried look... The newer Harley brakes are better..but nothing beats real racing quality stuff. Pulling 700lbs. plus (me and the wife another 310 lbs) down from 60 mph in a hurry is a chore...now I have peace of mind. And on a bike there is nothing more important. Confidence. :teeth
:smoking
