Why Expressing Anger Is Better Than Being Depressed.

let it out, get it out and remember your audience.
nothing to the extreme, everything in moderation........really hard for me to do however.

I think the key is to focus on communicating how what they do makes you feel, that is, make it *really* about you and not about the other person. If they care it will make a difference in their behavior and you won't have burned it all down.

Good luck M.

Ian Curtis hung himself in his early twenties, probably not something to aspire to. Anger is an emotion that shows that you are still engaged in life, depression implies that you have given up on it, or at least feel powerless to affect change.

I recently just discovered this as well. While I have several different outlets I wouldn't necessarily say they're ways in which I express my anger. But I realize its ok if I feel if things aren't going my way and that I need don't need to pretend for anyone that they aren't.

Anger has taken me to some of my best sporting performances. Overcoming physical limitations can happen when you are upset. It has its place for sure.

Anger is a valid emotion for me. It helps me identify what I am truly passionate about, along with true happiness. They work in conjunction for me. I don't mind being upset about things anymore. That wasn't always the case for me.

For a long time I didn't know how to properly deal with anger. I grew up in a military household where the kids weren't really allowed to be upset and if we were, we needed to get over it very quickly. I also had a biological father (not my step-dad that I lived with) that was extremely abusive and had the worst temper of anyone I knew. This made me not ever want to show anger; I became a reaction to, not a replica of how angry he was. However, I also never learned how to communicate anger, I simply bottled it up and compartmentalized it.

Thanks (and a huge shout out) to my wife for making me talk and communicate through my anger. She has made me a better communicator, a better person, and a better leader by doing so. Now, I can effectively talk through things that upset me and deal with that emotion with better vision and comfort.

My depression could only hang me; my anger could have harmed many.

I got a handle on both, but only because Mrs. spelled it out for me. I got VERY lucky.

That's for sure, Bud. OTOH, expressing anger has gotten far, far too many people killed. I'm thinking Melissa meant "constructively" expressing anger...because lord knows many people express it destructively.

I see your point, but am assuming that the acceptance of anger as a normal emotion among the vast majority of people, will not lead to a trail of dead bodies, except perhaps in extremly unlikely situations.

I bet that anger, or a very similar emotion, has driven a fair amount of scientific discovery over the centuries. Like Budman mentioned, it can be a motivating drive among highly competitive people, to prove their worth/standing in the world.

P.S. From various posts of yours, I think that Mrs.Yvil has had a very positive influence on you, and assume that the opposite is also true, congratulations on that.

In my case it came close to a litter of unconnected bodies back in the day. And I certainly perpetrated too much general mayhem before I got a handle on it.

P.S.: Mrs. hasn't changed one whit since we met, except to be more sociable and comfortable with crowds. Her core values and goals have remained the same. She's stubborn like that; she's never done a thing that wasn't in her heart to do :)

Im not depressed but I didn't think it was something you could turn on or off and had a choice in.
I know I get pissed off as much as the next guy and that doesn't seem to help much.
