Why do people need more than a 600cc?

I may not be the most experienced rider compared to some of you folks, but after have ridden some 1000cc sportbikes, why do you need such power for the street? Sure it is fun, but from my inexperience it seems more like a liability than actual benefit. For me, my 600ss seems overkill, and perhaps a 650 may be too much for the street. So, with having the wrath of God for power, why do some of you folks need such crazy power for the street?:shocker

Why do people need v6's and v8's? Because they want it and because they can:thumbup

A V6 or a v8 in a car generally isn't a low 10 second vehicle....big difference. I am not saying there is anything wrong with owning a 1000ss, but damn its just a sh!tload of power for the street. Maybe I'm sort of intimidated by having such acceleration to where I wouldn't trust myself

There is your answer right there. People without the skill nor experience to handle liter bikes buy them for different reasons than people who have the skill and experience to handle them (with some over lapping reasons).
Get the skill and experience and answer the question for yourself.

A bike is not a Liability, the person riding it is the liability. The bike only does what you tell it to.

Need? Nobody "Needs" most things. They want it. They like it. They can afford it.

Perhaps they like taking it to a track, or highway riding. Your question is like people who ask why people like expensive art, jewelry, fine foods, the Opera, KFC, cock fighting or BASE jumping. People like different things that you. If you can't understand that, then you have other problems.

That's COLD, Brrrr
I'd rather have more cc's in a detuned standard or sport tourer. I think 600cc is plenty for a sportbike and I think middleweights are more fun to ride than literbikes in a lot of circumstances. I like my literbike, but in retrospect, it hasn't contributed much to my development as a rider, or added that much extra joy to the ride either.

Are you serious? Is there a 650 that is as strong as a 600ss? Most are much slower.

Bigger bikes can be great for the street for the increased low end. Also true of 650 twins or singles vs 600 4s. Even though the 650 might be much slower it might be more fun and less effort to ride in traffic.

You don't need a liter bike, but they sure are fun. Can ride them easy and yet go fast. Don't have to shift nearly as much. Bikes aren't about needs, are about wants.
