Why are there no (good) helmet mounted displays for motorcycles?

This seems like a no-brainer of an item. A helmet mounted display like a HUD that is mounted in the helmet to give you instant information like speed, RPM, gear, etc.

The only thing out there is the sportvue which looks like it kinda sucks (but I guess for $60 it's not to bad).

Is there just no demand for it? I would think motorcyclists, especially sport bike riders, would be clamoring for an in helmet HUD.

What is the problem? Would you want one?

saw a guy once at Alices' with one of these and dude said he liked it! seems like it would be more likely that you couldn't lie to CHP about how fast you were going though:thumbdown

Right now it's kinda primitive tech... a color-coded light for radar detector displays, the "hovering out in front of one eye" HUD ...

but, with the latest generation of ultrathin LED displays (and even flexible displays) we'll probably start to see in-helmet HUDS.

The problem is, how to change displays when you've both hands on the bars? Do we need a chin-switch? maybe some kind of camera that senses when you wiggle your nose in a specific pattern, or flick your eye to a certain spot?

Mother of God.

I sense bluetooth or NFC integration with the bikes themselves in the near future.

I just think there isn't enough demand for it.

I personally love it in my car. But I think I'm in a small group.

I have driven lots of customer cars over the years. Some of them have HUDs. Of those, most of them are turned off so I'm guessing that most people don't really like them.
