Where are the bikes for sale?

Definitely a sellers market but this INFLATION is shitty as a buyer. Too much "free" expendable money floating around. More desperate buyers than there are desperate sellers.

Seriously! A year ago I bought a bike for $3800, and I think I could probably sell it today and make an extra $1K. The used market just looks stagnant right now, and it appears that people are starting to pay, "I don't want to sell it" prices.

The hubby sold a couple of bikes this year but we were both thinking that there wouldn't be many takers. I wouldn't say that we were overrun, and it DID take awhile, but people *are* looking. Most people (including us) just assumed no one would want to buy a bike during Covid. I have no idea why I thought that, but it's not the case.

I was possibly looking for an fz09 or fz1 and saw there’s significantly less used bikes for sale now then any other time I’ve been in the market.

Has anyone else realized this? Is there a new marketplace? I use Craigslist and here of course.

I've bought and sold a number of bikes right on BARF. Craigslist used to be good for buying things, selling, not so much.
So many flakes, without cash. I remember when I was selling a bike for 1500 and some dude comes over, after flaking 2 times before.

Me: Here is the "BikeIWasSelling"

Dude: I only have 150 dollars, can you set up a payment plan for me?

Me: .... (shutting garage door, and walking away)

Dude: Hey, man....

Same with off-road capable SUVs. I bought a low miles Landcruiser 1.5 years ago for 12,000, which I thought was All the money, I've been getting notes on windshield and offers of up to 18k. Hard to get a grip on what's Actual Cash Value anymore.
Bizarre.

toyota is discontinuing the landcruiser in the US, allegedly. that's part of the specific insanity for landcruisers.... though even 1.5 years ago at 12k you got a pretty good deal i suspect. what model?

Yeah when Craigslist started charging the $5 per listing, the personal posts went down to just 20 a day here in Phoenix and just tons of dealer adds. Facebook search engine SUCKS OMG. Some people have gone back to CycleTrader. Ebay fees are crazy now so very bikes listened there now unless dealers.

To me I find it rather funny that folks balk at paying $5 to pay for an advertisement to sell $1,2,3,4,5K or more motorcycle. Have folks really become that penny wise and pound foolish? Remember the want ads in newspapers or the trader mags?

Craigslist is still by far the best search engine for buyers, which should mean something to sellers. Sold three bikes within the last year, all listed on craigslist, FB, and Barf. Two sold on craigslist and one from FB.

Just my experience and opinion.

Yeah it's actually pretty crazy in how just the $5 posting fee has pretty much crushed the posting of motocycles for sale.. Dirt Cheap and weeds out those douche bags that posts the same item up like 5 times like they use to do everyday.

My take is that covid-19 has put a damper on every used market. If you look in the used car section, there's also a lot less supply than usual. From a seller's perspective, I believe most want to avoid in-person contact. It's also "winter" time, so the used mc market is also dryer until March/April when we're out of rain season.

I've had pretty good luck on FB marketplace, you just need to filter listings to local pickup only. FB Marketplace doesn't allow for lengthy text descriptions so follow-up communication is usually a a necessity in comparison to the cl format.

The entire supply chain is mucked up. Fewer new bikes means fewer used bikes for sale. I've been waiting months for a new bike from the dealer, they just don't have them.
