What's Your Nth Degree? Degrees?

Back For More
I figure a good portion of us ride to the Nth degree at times. Certainly the racers amongst us do. When I was younger it was speed. Now that I'm 40-something, I've traded in pace for distance and average over 400 miles per day. When I run, it's the same thing; I want to run for hours (which is what I did yesterday and why I'm writing this). A friend of mine once asked me, 'What is it with American men? You always have to beat the shit out of yourselves.' She couldn't be more right. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

How about you? What's your Nth degree?

Squid.
I ride around 60% on the street, push to 95% on the track, 100% is reserved strictly for racing. Street riding is about survival, track riding is about fun, racing is about going fast.

I probably push harder on bicycles than on motos simply because I ride far more on bicycles and love hill climbs. It's no fun unless you hurt.

Bicycles you just put yourself into the pain over and over and it feels great. Motorcycles you just can't push body/ mind that hard unless you are racing I guess. Or maybe if you don't fear death you can do that on the street like owns9.

As usual, Conan, you nailed it! Racing is the only time I go 100%. The longer I've been racing, the slower I'm riding on the street.

He's paid a terrible price for that, and will not ever ride again. The effect his crashes have had on his everyday life is chilling.

It's not my fault...
MTBs is where I really push myself. On the MC, I just enjoy the ride and try to get from point A to point B in one piece

Cycling - the heart of it is agony and misery, it will test every part of your mental capacity. Most cyclists like to "suffer", which is why none of us smile when you pass by.
