What The Best GPS For Bikes?

solarae

old lady hah!
Correct me if I'm wrong but besides being waterproof, the moto specific units have a headphone jack.
Big expense in GPS is the extra downloadable maps. Otherwise you are left with less detail than a paper map but at least you can see where you are relative to major landmarks.

If you mean the GPS that has elevations, and off road maps, then probably mine won't do all that :) (just a simple Garmin Nuvi 40)

I just use it for my commute... to enjoy the ride, concentrate on the road and get the fear of missing my exit off my head...

I do update the maps every few months...(from the PC at work or home)

but I heard that Motorcycle specific GPS has more details of course...

however, we are comparing a $40 GPS to a $400 ! :teeth

About $50 for the hardware
https://www.amazon.com/Mount-Composite-Double-Socket-1-Inch/dp/B005KWPJ04
https://www.amazon.com/RAM-Mounts-RAM-B-231-1U-Stainless-U-Bolt/dp/B000WJ90X2
https://www.amazon.com/Cradle-Holder-RAM-HOL-GA55U-Garmin-56LMT/dp/B00J3VLJLG

and $110 for the unit

I don't worry about theft or crashes, it's so cheap I can just buy another to replace it ... moto specific GPS units don't offer anything I found worthwhile to justify the 4~6x price premium

Well the big advantage of a moto GPS is less glare under the sun and acutal waterproofing.

I heard TomTom has a really good value for a moto-specific GPS unit.

I have a Garmin/BMW Navigator V myself and it works fine.. I hate that Basecamp software though.

Tom Tom very limited if you plan to travel over seas. I really want a GPS for Thailand. Tom Tom doesn't cover Cambodia or Laos (Thailand and VN covered). Just thought I'd point this out if anybody is planning to take theirs on vacation.

Can other maps be loaded into this unit? Baja, Canada and SE Asia?

Thanks, I know nothing about these things and just started looking.

It's been a couple of years and the older posts here don't nail down a good option. Anyone have a GPS they use on their motorcycle and enjoy it? I need to be able to upload routes others may share with me so that my motorcycle can be ridden more than one joy ride per spring season and one per fall season. Thanks!

I've got a Garmin Nav VI that links to the display on my GSA and it's very helpful to ensure I'm on track. It Bluetooths to my Cardo, so I get spoken navigation prompts.

I'm learning the Garmin BaseCamp software now, no reports on that yet. :teeth
