What is the law regarding signing a ticket

Simple question. I got a speeding infraction yesterday. The officer gave me the ticket I did a quick scribble and the officer began to give me shit about that not being my proper signature. From what I know about citations, you don’t even have to sign (I’m aware you can be arrested for that). It’s just you stating that you will appear on the date. Obviously he wasn’t pleased I scribbled quickly but that’s my signature. Isn’t it the same thing as someone going to the supermarket, using a credit card and signing a line?

The signature should match the signature on your DL. It’s another way to verify your identity since fake IDs do exist.

Or more likely than fake, persons using real IDs and CDLs of another, usually a sibling.

If it matches the scribble for a signature on the CDL, meh. OTOH, I've signed numerous papers for residential purchases and refinance. They are usually pretty anal about the signature being legible, even if it is a bit of a deviation from one's own illegible signature. I've been told to redo a signature to make it more legible.

How did you feel when he stepped back and took your picture? You know, so he could show it was you that did the signing...

So now I can claim it wasn’t me then, because he forgot the picture part.

No dash cam / body cam?

You can claim whatever you want if you don't mind perjury. If there is evidence of one lie, nothing else said will be believed.

The last thing I want to do when I get pulled over is to piss off the cop. Your mileage may vary.... :ride

yeah he did, thats why he said they didnt match. honestly though my signature is never the same. I always do it differently. I didnt know that was a crime.

after speaking with my lawyer he told me something like this.. legally speaking, a signature is you writing something on a paper; it can be a word, phrase or stupid a painting.

So if you sign your name differently and someone steals your identity, then starts signing for stuff with your name, how would you prove your signature vs. the imposter?

sure for my job it is just a ink stain.
( not very often) for any "court, legal stuff i try to do a readable name. but then my hand writing sucks.

My signature is a check mark: no letters, names, or anything. I had a bailiff question it. I pulled my drivers license and it matched almost perfectly. I quoted that a signature doesn't have to be anything other than a distinguishing mark from me.

Now I will say with my recent visa documents I sign the same way but I add my last name under it.
