It's a public forum where you post public comments. Why would it need to be secure?

Also, a certificate doesn't make the data you post secure, it makes your user name/password and login cookies secure.

On that note, I suggest whatever password you're using here you don't re-use on another web site. Just in case.

Or, never use the same password for any two sites, ever.

But still, it would be nice to have https back.

Not a big deal either way. HTTPS means your sessions are encrypted, so snooping in transit will be difficult or impossible. On the other hand it comes with some overhead, and there's not much here of interest to the NSA. :)

I'm not too worried about the NSA here, but main in the middle attacks, rather. What's the overhead involved?

You might play with this tool. Give it a https URL and it will show you visually the time taken for SSL handshakes, among many other things.
