What Did I Do To Prep For Baja? I Went Dirt Riding!

Last Sunday I went dirt riding…

At Stonyford…

On my 650...

With streetyish tires and saddlebags and a cooler on the back…

Eric came along, too…

It was fun…

But it was hot…

So we did this…

We left Stonyford, and dropped down the hill to Hough Springs…

More swimming, and then more riding…

Left at 5:45am, got home at 7:30pm, 357 miles. I'm ready!

Yeah, the first spot was on Little Stony Creek near Lovelady Ridge. The 2nd spot was Hough Springs down near Indian Reservoir. We took the trail down there from Little Stony. It's neat, mostly a quad trail, but the springs are really nice. It's not huge but it's deep. Eric is 6' even and it's over his head. Long Rocky River bottom road getting out. Never had trouble there before, but the water is lower and the rocks are getting slimy with algae! It was eventful!

That Hough springs rocky road ride is excellent practice for the road from Mulege to San Juanico! Nice to see there is still water in there. We hit that last year on the Oct Dirtybarf trip and it was bone dry all the way to the reservoir. I need to get out and ride so thanks for the motivation!

I was riding Middlecreek/Penny Pines last Saturday and Cow Mtn on Sunday. Impressed that you could actually ride in the afternoon at all! I generally start riding 6:30 am ish and done long before noon. Pleasant in the AM.... Africa hot in the afternoon. No way I could wear all that gear in the afternoon heat.... I would have resorted to clogs and a speedo for riding gear. No, thats not a Russian circus bear ridng a motorcyle, its CJ! :wave

I have a place in Nice now.... give me shout if ever heading back up there. Not always up there on the weekends, but would love ride with you and Eric again if the schedules work.

And here is to hoping you can make Baja. Our RR's would be sooooo much better with your photo journalism. :applause
