I'm going to South Africa for 3 weeks in April/May. It's sad to think that lots of the animals I will see will no longer be alive for future generations to witness.

Right on man, you are going to have a blast. We are planning on going back to Botswana next year.

i wonder if the price of the very last rhino horn will actually be worth not being able to poach rhino horns anymore. ud think that poachers would want to save a few to keep their job going.

When the chances of you making it to tomorrow are not always that great, I don't think they put a lot of thought into rhino horn futures. Incredibly sad.

On one hand you have some rich folks form asian countries throwing bunch of money at it because they think it will give them super boner, on the other you have some locals who don't give a shit about where they live and just see the mighty dollar signs. Sad all around.

How sad. It does inspire me to travel more though, see things that may not exist in 5-10-20 years from now.

What is life
99% of species have gone extinct. It's just shitty that so many of them are because of humans. It's only going to get worse in the future...

I hate everybody.

It is a damn shame that the US cannot do a military mission to protect these animals from the fucks that poach them. Given all the BS $$ we spend on the Middle East stuff a few drones and some choppers with some good old Marines on board could possibly cut that shit off. At least take the fuckers to task.

Some humans really suck. :mad

Confession time. I drunkenly learned a hard lesson on auctions at a California Deer Association dinner one night (totally pulled a Farva with the open bar) and came home the owner of a 7-day Safari for two in South Africa. After some research and thinking, I don't really want to go. The whole Cecil thing actually helped me gain perspective and now I don't really have a desire to go be "put on some "game"" in Africa.

I love hunting (although I suck at it and have no trophies or meat to my credit at this point), but I want to earn my kills.

I'm already almost $4k into it and I guess I can try to sell the package to recuperate some dough, but it's a pickle I wish I weren't in to begin with.

That said, anyone wanting a package on a once in a lifetime safari, with a .375 H&H elephant gun in the mix, send me a PM.

I like this idea. Poachers are murderous fucks, and it's dangerous for law enforcement to confront them. The poachers are begging for a real fighting force to show them what the fuck is up.

Then powder their remains, mix with strychnine, and send to China as a boner enhancer.

good point. the fact that its illegal and theres probably a threat of death for poaching really diminishes the need to care about the next 'job'.

...

i hope more ppl can have the same sort of revelation that u did.

killing any sort of game without much purpose really bothers me. hell, theres a fishing show about shark tournaments that i cant watch. such a beautiful animal and u are killing it for fun. dont get me wrong, i love fishing. but i CPR (catch-photo-release) about 90% of my catch and eat the other 10%.

I eat all my fish.

I know coyote hunting is en vogue now. Last deer season I heard the rustling and bleating of deer on the run. My hackles jumped straight up and I was ready to kill my first buck as the sound drew nearer. I never saw the deer. I did get in my scope a beautiful coyote about 40 yards away, sauntering along. He stopped and we made "eye contact" through my dead-zeroed mil dot reticle for about five seconds, safety off and finger on the trigger. I was just admiring it the whole time. He loped away, and I never saw any damn deer. Maybe I just like armed nature walking, but that moment I felt more in tune with nature than I'd ever been before. I still want some fresh venison of my own, though. I know it's not easy to get, especially in CA on public land. But that's the reality of hunting I'm game for.
