In Search of Uncle Toms Cabin

Had a day to play, had read here charitable remarks about Wentworth Springs & Ice House Road and thought I'd go take a peek. Exit from I-80 in Auburn. Panned a nugget, the pushed on to Stumpy Meadows where the visitors are grumpy fellows.

Found a cabin

Nice ride! Towns named Cool and George, too. Found Uncle Toms Cabin. Find my dollar bill stapled to the ceiling and I'll buy you a beer. Saw what might be the world's longest cherry picker working on a cell phone tower. Obligatory meal in Pollock Pines and sprint back on slab to home. Good trip.

Next time, bring your trunks and take a dip. When you come down Ice Hs, turn left onto 50 to the Whitehall turn out. Nice deep pools.

How long did this ride take you? I'm thinking of doing a similar route on Thursday and trying to adjust my schedule to fit it in.

honest, I was loafing

My cell phone logs indicate:

Foster City to Rocklin: 2hrs
Rocklin to Georgetown: 1:15
Georgetown to jct. Ice house&US50: 2hrs.
To Pollock Pines: 1/2 hr.
To home: 2:30
8 1/4 hrs. Total

Confused because I stopped often and dawdled when I did. Gas in Rocklin, confused in Auburn (forgot to print map/directions), stopped at Stumpy Resv., refreshment break at Uncle Toms, wandered about at Ice House Resv., along with gas and a meal at Taco Bell in Pollack Pines.

Leisurely pace...but Google maps show 8 hrs for the journey.

400+ miles ÷ 50mph avg.= guess so
