Went to pick up propane, and this jackass pulled a knife on me

Went to get propane to cook dinner. Noticed someone drifting into my lane, and honked. Kept driving. Pulled up to stop sign to turn into uHaul (getting propane in Campbell). The road has curbs on both sides, jackass gets out of the car to start a fight, then backs down, goes back to his car and starts waving a knife out the window and yelling shit. Called the police. Nothing happened. Followed up with the police and they declined to pursue. So if you see this idiot, heads up. He wears the knife on his hip.

My take away from the police is that they basically won't do shit until it's too late.

Some communities have, when they have adequate resources, adopted "proactive policing"; not Campbell, apparantly.

Well you are in a car and could have driven away, virtually no threat to your life, why would they care?

No, I was blocked in. Curbs (concrete separators) on both sides, traffic behind, and him in front. I never expected the situation so he was out and at my door before I could get the window up. Couch analysis incorrect. And brandishing a weapon is a felony in California, so legally they should care.

@Butch yeah brandishing a weapon isn't what it used to be...

Wow, that is surprising that CPD didn't respond

Did you get a photo of the vehicle and plate?

It's a troubling trend that police are often too busy to enforce important basic laws. Maybe we need to bring back the concept of deputizing citizens and giving them carry permits.

Or allowing civilians to maintain the ability to defend themselves.

Yeah, that would work, give a bunch of untrained citizens the power of arrest and a weapon.

Its Dethklok!
I had this guy cut me off. I honked, he slammed on his brakes and jumped out. He was about that size too. I pointed at my gopro. He muttered some choice words. Got back in his car and took off. Its become that type of world imo.

Had a similar thing happen to me once. Ex wife's son cornered me with his truck in a parking lot. He jumped out of the truck and came up to my window yelling. He then jumped back in his truck and waved this billy club around out his window and then drove off. I went to the police station around the corner to report him. They told me that the DA would not prosecute as there were more important things to do and that I could fill out a police report so it was on record.

Why must you assume that they would be untrained? The ability to defend yourself is a human right. Using tech. to make that happen is a privilege, just like driving. I don't see untrained/licensed drivers running loose do you?

And this is exactly why I wear my Contour when I ride.

Actually I do. The driver's requirements in the U.S. are wholly inadequate. We pay for this through expensive insurance rates and very high accident/injury/death rates.

In Ca. we already have the right to perform arrests as citizens. Most do not as they do not have the training or desire. If you want to be a cop, be a cop. I don't want to turn this into another gun debate but our rate of violence due to guns is pretty damn high and we are not going to make that better by allowing more people to have guns.

Fixed for the reality of the world we now live in. :p

Honestly, I've quit doing anything when I drive or ride. People still cheat corners, encroach lanes, and other bad driving habits, but it's obvious there is nothing you can do short of engage in physical confrontation. It's sooooo close. The center can not hold.

I agree. People who threaten others with knives need to be protected and LEO's have more serious issues to worry about. We really need to focus on Jackson here.

Ur bad, Jackson. Please stop making people pull knives on you. I mean, what do you expect wearing that tight fitting shirt? You're pretty much begging for it, then complaining when you almost get it. For shame.

For reals though, I hope the knife guy dies sooner than later.
