went for a ride with a Harley today

It didn't break down or leak any oil. It lost parts on every corner because the highway pegs and kickstand would drag when leaned over. Who woulda thunk? !?!? I guess from now on I'll be a little easier on the Harley flaming. It was no match for the XR650 but I was nice and just followed along.

Yikes, that sparked some memories of a Harley rider that was a few bike lengths behind me On Ebbetts or Sonora pass. He was dragging hard, the noise was scary loud, like it could be crashing. I was on my TLR with Pro Taper handle bars + Scotts damper.

Made me feel very un-easy....I didn't want to suck him into crashing, and... Very concerned about his attitude, to be riding like he was.

Too much lean angle...
It seems like 80% of Harley's riding directly in front of me lowside.

Lou, what happens if you put bars and a damper on a Sportster?

Scary part was the sparks shooting 10 feet out the back from the kick stand. FIRE DANGER!!!
I could just imagine that golden brown field grass going up like a Roman candle. The pegs just left nice grey stripes of aluminum on the road.

Sportsters come with bars, Damn nice ones, but I prefer Pro Taper bars so I switch out the stock Sportster bars, and that is real easy.

The Harley bars being 1" dia. and the Pro Tapers being 1 1/8th" (in center area) Just hit the Harley (aluminum) bar clamps, with a drum sander in a power drill motor, to fatten the radius, and bingo, your home free.

Harley's need a Scotts Stabilizer Damper, as much as any bike, does.

It takes having a slapper, to make a believer, out of the rider though.

I rode with a guy on a Harley Trike yesterday, he rides well, I've ridden with him for 35+ years. Apparently, he's convinced he's getting old and needs 3 wheels. He said he forgot about the rear wheels twice and split beteen cars before he remembered. He got the front to push (oversteer) more than once. He went pretty fast on it, considering it had 350 miles on it yesterday when he got to my house. We used to race short track, hare scrambles, TTand Enduros together, I know he can ride.

FTFY Lou.:laughing

:thumbup...I don't think about money, so I do tend to forget about it. :thumbup

Two or three decades ago, a writer for City Bike, Manard Herson (or however he spells his name.

Was retuning from LA, coming up 101, on straight smooth road, his BMW went into a slapper that tossed him off his bike at about 65 MPH, put him in the hospital....His bike was examined, to see a reason.
None was found...He said he was never the same again...He couldn't believe a bike could do that to him.

Anyone want to guess if a $500. Stabilizer Damper would be called expensive, to him?
