Well somebody finally stole my helmet and jacket.

I decided to go for a quick walk through the redwoods up by Joaquin Miller and left my helmet, jacket, and gloves on my bike. Inevitable I guess but lesson learned.

Probably some bike theif or just assholes trying to fuck with somebody. Hope they enjoy my head stank and busted zipper on that jacket. Fuckers. :twofinger

When I'm running errands and will be leaving my helmet and gloves on the bike for a few minutes, I wear a helmet and gloves that should have been tossed out years ago. If they ever get stolen, I'll report it to the police, but will have to value them at $0.00. :laughing

And I won't even be breaking the law around here, riding back home without them.

That’s a bummer.

I go there once in a great while. Used to run there all the time in high school.

One day I want to set some bait up and catch a thief in the act.

I never, ever, simply will not leave anything like a leather jacket or my all important helmet on my bike for any amount if time.

You'd like to at least lock the helmet. You shouldn't ride home without a jacket just cuz, but you CAN'T ride home without a helmet. Lose the helmet, and you're stranded.

If you are going to leave your helmet, next time make sure to take a big dump in it first. Works for me...

Do they not put D ring locks on the side of a bike anymore?

Since it's Idaho you'd probably find them in the nearest dumpster. No one there would want to actually be seen with safety gear.

I know two people who have had their straps cut by doing that. My helmet either goes in my top case or with me.

I mean, it's more of a deterrent than just leaving your helmet on your handlebars all willy nilly

Not quite.

It's mostly only the older guys on Harleys (and a few Indians) that ride without helmets in Idaho. The majority of riders wear them here, unlike Utah where most don't. And here in Idaho, all riders, regardless of motorcycle type, tend to wave or return waves.

joaquin miller parks been a target recently for break ins too. be careful.

My husband mountain bikes up there all the time--we're just a few minutes' drive away. He's reported to this me too. Sorry to hear about your stuff going bye-bye. That's an expensive pain in the butt. :thumbdown

You can't leave anything around or visible at JM. It's been that way for years. Had my Jeep broken into about 5 years ago up there. Busted window and all the thief got was a bag of dirty clothes.

You may think your gear is not worth much. But even if it's not worth close to what you paid, it's worth more than nothing, and that's all that matters to the scum that steals stuff like that. And of course they don't give a shit about the cost and hassle of replacing a window.

If you don't have a way to stash your gear securely, at least carry a cable lock and run it through your helmet and an arm of your jacket. Easy to cut but better than nothing.

That sucks. If I leave the helmet with the bike I use cable gun locks. through the chin bar and around something it cant slip off of on the frame. Has worked so far. They would destroy the helmet trying to get that thing off. The links are plastic coated metal so hard to cut with anything other than bolt cutters and wont scratch anything.

If there is any doubt about where I'm parked, I take it with me. gloves and jackets never get left unless I'm on the Harley and they are locked in a side bag.
