Wear a Full-Faced Helmet

I was in the Seattle area Saturday night, eastbound on 104 after riding the Kingston/Edmonds ferry. This road is busy and potentially very dangerous. I passed an accident scene with one motionless victim on the ground near a riderless Harley. I don't know if the victim was riding the Harley, but I have to think he was.

His face was directly on the pavement and there was enough blood flowing that I could see it in the very brief moment I had to look.

Being seen isn't worth it, no matter how hot you are. Please wear a real helmet that covers your whole head.

This is no different from my non-riding friends who would urge me to stop riding every time there is a motorcycle fatality.

I have to respectfully disagree. Technology can be utilized to achieve better outcomes. One does not have to avoid the activity to achieve better outcomes.

to each his own, but im glad i have a full face helmet. im just about to hit the 300 mile mark but ive had enough pebbles and bugs come flying at me from out of nowhere, not to mention little tiny pieces of debris or straight up dust getting straight into my eyes despite the visor only being cracked ever so slightly.

the other day i got a bee stuck between my helmet and visor for about a mile of city riding. damn near crapped myself, had to stare at its pissed off face the entire ride to work till i got a chance to get the helmet off and let it loose.

I always wear a full faced helmet but I have a lot of friends that don't especially Harley riders. I looked at the peanut shell helmet on my friends street glide and it was not even dot approved, it said not to be used for riding.:|

No problem. You can buy fake D.O.T stickers on line. That should be enough.
Those are the guys that bitch the loudest about helmets anyway.

I wear a full face because I'm not a total idiot.

That's what it comes down to.
To each their own. To be a fucking moron.

Why so much hate? Because from most of society's point of view, your the same "fucking moron" as the half helmet guy just because your on a motorcycle. Get over yourself. Your not much less of an idiot than the next guy...

It's bad logic, but on local rides on my full fairing RT, I wear my 3/4, out of town, FF. stupid, I know, just as dead local or out of town. When it's 100F, hot is hot.
Last ride on my ZRX, I hopped on without thinking with my 3/4, took off towards the mountains and got about 6 miles out. All the way, I was wincing from the rocks, sand, bees flying by, crap! I used my hand as a mask for a bit.
Had it been that long since I'd ridden a non-faired bike?
I went home.
Sadly, it was the last ride on the ZRX. I put an ad out as it had been months since I had ridden it. Wuusified by the RT. Some sumbichy bought it even tho it was priced high.
Wait, what was the subject?

I slid on my belly (and chin) at around 40 MPH a few years back. Thank you, Shark full face.

I walked into a motorcycle shop in 1975. On the display cabinet was a full face helmet that had the right front quadrant ground away so that the interior structure of the piece was visable.

The shop owner, wearing a sling and brace, told me that he had been wearing it when he went down. The crash broke his collar bone and destroyed his riding gear but his skin and face were intact.

Without the full face helmet, he said, he would have lost an eye, cheekbone and part of his jaw. He was sore but intact.

I bought a full face helmet from him on the spot. And three time since then I have suffered from my own idiocy but retained my good looks because of full coverage head gear.

So yeah, wear one yourself. Often it works out better that way.

even before the helmet law I wore a full face, when asked why: so they can have an open casket funeral, I replied.

My only street crash - a left-turner not yielding and clearing me out from the side. I went over the hood, landed on my chin, and slid all of the way to the curb. Which happened to be the curb of the ER, so I got my CT scan right away; it showed that the fullface had done its job. My only injury was on my fingers, and I upgraded my gloves accordingly.

women and men alike will wonder who that mystery person is!

Most people (and I include myself) look a damn sight more attractive in a fullface. :laughing

I crashed when I was learning how to ride and hit left chin first on the pavement at 60ish. The impact to side of my chin was so hard that it popped the paint off of an area about the size of tennis ball and dented a little. The side of my helmet had road rash on it and this was only from the impact. I was awake for the whole thing and when I slide my helmet never touched the ground.

My Harley riding friend who was with me now always wears a full face helmet. That is my contribution, crash and get your friends to wear full face!

That depends on how much "better" you want the outcome to be.

The improvement in outcome for "not riding vs. riding" is vastly larger than the improvement between "full vs. other helmet."
